With the O6 unable or unwilling to get back, it looks like we'll all be leaving the island soon. Of all the characters we have bonded with, I am going to miss the island the most. It was like an impressive, living, breathing thing with a definite personality. Anyone else feel that way?

Here is a thought I've had for awhile and is somewhat on topic, but I didn't want to start it's own thread just for it:

We've assumed all along the island is essentially a "good" being. What if it isn't?

I'm sure we will still see the Island until the end of the show just because we will have to see Locke and Sawyer and the rest of the lostest I mean come on it just can''t be seen again. I don't think they would do that to us.

There's no doubt we will be seeing a LOT more of the island. Sometimes I wonder if people are watching the same show as I am. LOL.

Well...I guess my thinking is more like this:

We've assumed the island is worth saving because of it's healing properties, and because people want SOMETHING from it.

My feeling, though, isn't that the island is "good" or "bad", per se. More or less that it's just a tool, much like a hammer. It can be used for good or evil and that is what is being played out. Who gets to wield it? IMO, neither Ben nor Widmore appear to be good stewards. For that matter, Locke at times doesn't either.

The island, or what power it possesses, isn't worth saving because it does not have a moral compass of its own. It is amoral, in the literal sense. But its powers cannot fall into the wrong hands.

Very much like the force in SW. The force can be used for good or evil, we just have to be sure that it's the good that has the upper hand and is using it for good.

The sad thing is, the best steward, imo, is Desmond and he wants off the bloody thing. While they seem to have set Locke up to do it, my guess is that Jack is going to end up being the man with the keys when all is said and done.

I see what you're saying. I think part of what I'm trying to say is that we have spent a lot of time absorbed in the workings of the island, good, bad or indifferent.

It's as if after the "moving" thing we will all be taken off of it and we'll never be back there In The Same Way again.

Oh yeah we may be taken back via the continuing story, but the island as we have known it won't ever be the same. Because it was all of our characters interactions with it that made Lost so much more. Maybe I'm not explaining this idea well enough-just my personal opinion here. One without the other seems like a big loss to me.

The island has gotten into all our psyches just like it has most of the people involved with or on it.

I just read the thread on the L.A. Times interview from Maria Elenas Fernandez' article on the Lost finale. Several actors and the writers made comments about the future of the show. The island of/in the mind comment by Lindelof (I think) is what I was saying on this thread. Can we ever get back to the same island again? The characters have left the island, but can never leave "the island in the mind". I wonder if we will be in the same boat.

Well, then, Beach... You'd probably be the next candidate in line to be the island's Watchperson.
I, personally, tend to think the island is not truly an "entity" but does have certain properties that can be used for good or evil intent. (That's the scientific side). Perhaps many of the other things that have occurred have been heightened in our psyches to the point that we assume more is going on in "another dimension" than it really IS... Maybe?? I just think the writers are very good at leading us into the twilight zone to mess with our minds when perhaps we ought to take a more logical approach. ???

Yeah I reckon next season is gonna focus mostly on the island, with the Oceanic 6 taking a small step back. What are they gonna do on the island if someone gets hurt, without Jack there? If Juliet remains behind she'd be the new doctor, but she wants off that island really bad, so if she's not a secret survivor then what happened?

You have a good point there....
If I had taken a more logical approach I probably wouldn't be watching the show now. Logical thinking has its great value, and I tend to go that way, but I have enjoyed the chaotic and mysterious happenings on the island. I'm married to a philosopher and logic I can get any day--LOL.

That wild island ride is what keeps me coming back so I hope there will be lots more of it whether they are on or off the island. I guess that I just saw/see being "off" as a personal loss-call me crazy!

My little island
in the Pacific
Everything about it
is terrific
I have sun to tan me
wind to fan me
And.....
An occasional man......

It's an old catchy tune...

If the Island had anything to do with killing Charlie then it's a good guy in my book;-)
