I think that after last night, and finding out that the laywer, who talked to hurley, is a Hitman, hired by Dharma, to find the island and Ben. The want Ben for killing their people and for distrupting the studies/testing they were doing on the island. I came to that conclusion after hearing he and Naomi talk about the "covert operation" and the "inexperience" of the team they hired.

The reason why Dharma cannot get back to the island is because once Ben and the others purged the Dharma people, the started jamming communications and hiding the location of the island. Dharma may have had the coordinates, but I think with out the signal coming from the island it made it harder to find, and I still think the island is alive.

Dharma and Oceanic are in it together to cover up the crash, Oceanic - reputation wise, Dharma because they don't want people to know about the testing they were doing on the island.

When the lawyer went to see Hurley, he was protecting Dharma investment in the island, and essentially the muslce for the organization that pressed down on the Oceanic 6 so keep quite.

I think that is he who is in the casket - "neither friend or foe" and why would Kate go. Jack had emotional connection cause now he is essentially free from the lie/ pressure.

So... yeah..

In Revelation 9:11, it is personified as Abaddon, "Angel of the Abyss",[1] rendered in Greek as Apollyon; and he is described as king of the locusts which rose at the sounding of the fifth trumpet. In like manner, in Rev. vi. 8, Hades is personified following after death to conquer the fourth part of the earth.

ALSO. Abaddon and Apollyon translate into THE DESTROYER.

The above is a Post from NAVYGUY - Just thought it added alittle more to my previous statement.... The destroyer - Hitman maybe?

How/why did Dharma drop the food? They must know how to get to the Island!

He is not a hitman.

He is not a hitman.

what other explanation do you have to dispute it. I am just curious, cause we know he isn't the smoke monster, that wouldn't make sense, cause if he was and wanted ben killed, the monster could have done it himself.

I don't know about the food, that is a good point. But he still could be a hitman

While it's clear I have to abandon my previous "Matthew Abaddon is the Smoke Monster" sub-theory (unless there is more than one smoke monster world-wide; but that's so far-fetched I won't entertain the thought), I'm still unclear about what Abaddon is about.

Before coming here, I didn't even think about him being from DHARMA at all and going after Ben. I think it's actually, ok, bear with me. The name Abaddon means "end of the world" and whatnot. Wasn't the initial reason for DHARMA to change the numbers in the Valenzetti Equation (which predicted the end of the world)?

Perhaps Abaddon is a "rival organization" that just wants to exterminate DHARMA so that the equation WON'T change (he may or may not have any idea that Ben has lost [or never had] any interest in the equation at all).

Snape, I am intrigued by that. I didn't even think of the equation or rival organization.

Maybe he is part of a protectorate of that equation; a naturalist for lack of a better word. Not so much part of a parallel to Dharma, but more like what you were saying in relation to exterminate; "defenders."

But I don't want to think to deep into him.

I stick by saying I think it was him in the casket. Hurley is afraid of him, kate doesn't care that he died, Jack is moved to tears that he died. It fits.... for the moment.

And knowing he is dead, Jack is more persistent to getting back to the island, seeing this as his opportunity now that Abaddon is dead, the person who was making sure they kept the secret of the island and its power just that, a secret.

I was about to look up Matthew Abbadon and bible references... glad someone else did it!

intriguing that he might not be from Dharma... !!

Is anyone familiar with the gospel of Matthew? I wonder if there's a clue/connection in there.

He is not a hitman.

Word LostFreak21. They didn't say they want Ben killed... where do you get the impression he is a hitman? No where does anything say they want to kill Ben... you are way off... sorry :( Maybe I missed something...

That a big stretch. We don't even know Jack knew this guy... and I don't see why he would. And this guy probably has a family if he were to turn up dead... I really don't think it's him at all. Interesting theory, but it doesn't add up.. yet :)

1. Maybe he wants someone else to do his dirty work. 2. Maybe he isn't as bad as we think he is.3. Maybe he is setting things up like the rest of them.

I think it is implied. And it you saw the preview for next week, I think it was Hurley who said "Your going to kill us" and Miles turned around with a smirk and said "Not yet."

I get the impression more that he is muscle for Dharma, like an enforcer.

My theory spurred out of the biblical reference for Abaddon. I never said he didn't have family. But I also wasn't thinking along those lines when i looked into his name. I don't see how you don't think it adds up.

If he knew where to find Hurley, in mental institution, then he probably knows of the 6, and has met Jack.

It seems like it fits.

Did anyone notice the chalkboard with doodles behind Hurley when he was talking to the lawyer???? I'm just sayin....The theory of "it's all in his head"...etc. These doodles are of an island and If I remember correctly, a plane as well. He could have imagined all of this????

Am I wrong?

Not sure. All I know is one of the survival items for Season 4 listed on this site was a chalboard and it made reference to doodles....so when I noticed that, I thought it was worthy of discussion....maybe Hurley really is a head case and has imagined all of this based on books that he has read in the asylum??? and his mind is jumbling up all the facts from different books and different experiences in his life....the end result being this story??? Far fetched? probably....but....it sure is fun to play this game!!! :)

Interesting. Not sure how I would feel about it if Hurley was dreaming all this.

A shark, the island, a boat. What do you think? Jaws making an appearance haha? That would be wild. A am sure JJ Abrahms could make a better Jaws that Speilberg. Although Jaws is classic.
