Long story short, maybe Ben is in the coffin and is also one of the Oceanic 6 ..... I know it is far fetched.
Short coffin; short Ben. It would make sense considering what Kate said at the airport to Jake about going to the funeral. Think about it, this whole time, Ben could have had this "spy" looking for the island, in bedded on this search team. That way it doesn't look like he was trying to leave .... saving face in front of his people. Once they find the island, Ben could have been working to become captured, and then he would manipulate everyone to get him back on the boat. Then, he and the spy take over the boat ........ I still haven't worked out the rest of the details, how they threaten everyone to not speak of the other survivors etc.
But again, who knows, this is LOST.
