Ben and the Smoke Monster

alright. I was just rewatching the shape of things to come, and i realized that when ben comes out of his secret chamber hidden inside his secret chamber that he is covered in black dust. Now im pretty sure he was shiny clean before he went in there. So im wondering if its just really dirty where he went, or maybe he was in direct contact with the smoke monster (or very close it) and was covered in ash. Maybe he didnt signal smokie, maybe he went to speak to its origin directly or entered its chamber or some such. I dont know. But clean when he went in, covered in soot when he came out.

Interesting - I hadn't noticed that. The hole he went into had the look of a place that doesn't get visited frequently, so maybe that's all there is to it. On the other hand, I suppose it's possible that Smokey might leave behind a bit of soot wherever it goes, so it may have been some kind of lair.

The question then becomes, what kind of hold does Ben have over Smokey that would cause Smokey to do what he said? How do you emotionally manipulate a cloud of smoke?

Maybe he uses a control pad to control smokey - like "LOST IN SPACE" (1998) the remake - the kid used a control pad to control the robot like a remote cntrol car...
