It seems we're verging on the X-Filesish outcome for LOST.
I was hoping it would be based in some reality but I am being more like Jack in the finale - he doesn't believe in the mumbo jumbo about the island being alive - "It;s just an island" he tells Locke.
Obviously the storyline is heading down the path of Locke's thinking - which dissapoints me. I wanted it to me a normal island with weird things going on - I can handle that, but when the story stered to the island controlling who comes and goes and who lives and dies...that's a huge stretch even for me.
If Darlton change their minds and make this all a dream in the end...whew! That'll give it the 'Roseanne' ending for me and I can handle it - I"ll feel used for 6 years, but a dream is explainable.
I'm just starting to cringe at the thought of what is to come...please don't dissapoint it for me Darlton.

I think this show is going exactly like the writers' have planned. They seem to be stumping everyone. And, the ending may not be as sci-fi as it's appearing ( I keep hoping). I feel that alot of us are like Jack right now, if you think about it. I can stand another 2 years of racking my brain cells on this.

what is so wrong with a sci-fi direction? JJ seems to be into all that kind of stuff with cloverfield and now the new star trek film.

I completely agree. I am fine with a sci-fi direction, but some things appear to be trending toward the supernatural. I've been hoping everything would have a somewhat plausible explanation, and maybe it still will. But if we've got people time traveling and teleporting or whatever and dead folks sitting in imaginary cabins, I'll be disappointed. I'll still enjoy it tremendously, but be disappointed.

what plausible explanation could possibly explain all that has happened? i'm not a dumb guy and i honestly think there is no way to explain all that has happened using the laws we govern ourselves by. sorry, but if you are looking for a real conclusion to a show that is based in fantasy, you are heading for a huge disappointment

I just DO NOT want this to end up someone's dream or imagination...
Nah, they wouldn't do that to us, right??? I'd feel very used and as if it were all for nothing! Can't be that... Soooo, supernatural stuff? They might, and since the paranormal is a "science" in itself, I suppose they could use it that way when they claim everything will be explained away scientifically... IDK...
I just can't see them moving the island with any symbolic donkey wheel. Perhaps causing a seismic (did I spell that right?) shift would be a stretch, albeit plausible...
I only know LOST keeps us glued to the set, no matter what the outcome
and I LOVE LOST FOREVER!!

maybe the losties aren't the ones who are lost, maybe it is us who are suppose to be lost. maybe the whole idea behind the show is to get the viewers so lost in the story and then throw a MAJOR curve ball at us by the end

I'm not disappointed about Lost...yet. But I think the biggest problem is that the dynamics of the show seem to be changing all the time without much reasoning or answers.
In season 1 my big questions were who is Adam and Eve, what is the monster, what are the hatches, etc. And now suddenly I'm asking about time travel, constants, time differences, moving an island - and yet, I still don't know the answers to my season 1 questions.

Lost is a show with a great deal of breadth and depth in that it touches on and causes all of us losties to explore a wide variety subjects contained with in the series. I mentioned in a thread yesterday posted by Addicted that the show has elements of philosophy, mythology, science, science-fiction, psychology and fantasy. And I’m sure more that I am not thinking of right now. As far as I know, I don’t personally know anyone on the forum and I can’t speak for anyone, but when reading the posts it seems that most of us tend to analyze, look at, and of course enjoy the show from a particular perspective. I like the show as a whole, but particularly think about the philosophical and mythological components. But, I learn a lot from those who discuss the scientific aspects of what is happening. The show does appear to be going in a more science fiction direction, but maybe it appears that way to those of us who would rather it didn’t and we are focusing more on this part of the story. I for one am going to just take it as it comes and enjoy the ride.

Thats to funny. LOSTOLY I love it.
Out of the explanations being pseudo-scientific or supernatural, I'm convinced they will still end up in the realms of highly improbable/pseudo science.
I love the direction of the show. We end up going further and further down the rabbit hole...

Regardless of wether we like the ending or not, the show is a classic... Their ability to keep us guessing and yet we still watch is incredible. Really you have to let go of all reality and enjoy the story. (It's called "The Suspension of Disbelief") Unfortunatley the anticipation is always more exciting then the end. Just like when you were a kid on Christmas eve! Unless it was the Christmas you got Atari...

...yeah but I didn't wait 6 years for an awesome game system only to get the Atari! :--) I just want my 6 year journey to not be for naught. Sure it'[s only TV but they've purposely opened many doors that they plan to keep me wondering about until the end, so it better be satisfying.

The fact that this is becoming more Sci-Fi validates the show I think. There were many people that were criticizing the show for its lack of reality, that it was getting too outlandish, and that it was a Sci-Fi show in sheeps clothing. This same argument was made before, just the other way around. Now, there are no apologies...It's Sci-Fi, with just enough reality in it not to lose the audience.

I keep going back to something I heard from a writing prof way back when...Your story doesn't have to be Plausible, it just has to be Possible. Has that dictum changed over the years? IDK. I love what they've done to keep us all hanging on--- not just by the seat of our pants, but by all twenty fingers and toes and every available brain cell! Way to Go, Lost creators!!!!

It has been, but it remains to be seen if- as a whole- it will be remembered as such. Quite a bit can go right or wrong in 2 seasons.
For better or worse I'm hooked and hope it works out but I agree with the poster in the OP and I'm not so sure it's going to be for the better.

I've been disappointed since about 4 episodes into Season 3 when they decided that Kate and Sawyer's ex-lover and Libby and Hurley and Jack and Claire were all related - it was almost as bad as that R. Kelly song where, by the 8th part, him and his wife's pastor's boyfriend were all hiding in a closet - and yet the show refused to give us any real answers to the questions raised in Seasons 1 and 2 (smokie, origin of hatches, Walt's "powers", etc.).
The only thing I can't figure out is whether I'm more disappointed in the show for subjecting me to that or disappointed in myself for getting so hooked after S1 & S2 that I voluntarily chose to subject myself to this frustration for, what?, 6 seasons.....
I finally understand how Charlie Brown felt about Lucy and the football.....

No not yet, as there are more episodes to come.
But I hope that at the end of the series, that we at least know something more about the Dharma initiative, how they ever got on that Island, if they created it, or just used it.

I give +10 for the LOLcat avatar.
And I do like the sci-fi aspects of the show. I'm hoping for a grand resolution that makes be slap my head in disbelief that I didn't realize it all along, which is highly unlikely if we keep having dead people show up in cabins or traveling through time.

I like all the character background in Lost. I like getting to know the characters and what makes them tick. I love the suspense. I love the coincidences and aspects of fate. I love looking for the little things in each episode. Part of me really, really wants to watch the spoiler scenes and another part of me wants to hang on until I can see the episode. I am not dissapointed with the show at all. Bring it on!

Seriously though, I don't really care which way they go. As long as they do it right, and keep me entertained. Which so far they have done in spades. They have not ceased to suprise me and enthral me, somehow, in probably every episode. It's unique. It really tweaks my intelectual erogenous zone by delving deeply into science (mainstream and fringe), philoshophy, conspiracy theories and the like, which are supposed to tie it to our reality. The late Robert Anton Wilson would be proud.
As long as I don't expect any kind of plot development in particular, I'm sure the legends who make LOST will continue not to dissapoint me.

yeah I must have some unrealistic expectations (Hmmm Ironic..?) of the show and the direction it's going. I don't want it to end up like the latest Indiana Jones film - I get all set up with great film and then in the last 10 minutes it goes waaaaayy out there...

Haha, yeah I know what you mean. But at least the guys at LOST hq have more than two hours to try to explore and explain things. This may be what puts LOST up there on another plane compared to the Indiana movies.
Indiana is fun and adventurous and does not really require much thinking to fully enjoy it (probably the opposite). LOST mischievously tests the boundaries between pleasure and torture, and you've not only got to have your thinking hat on during each episode, but it intensifies the experience if you think and research more about it in between them.

I disappointed that the show has started to focus more on Ben and his mind f#@*g of everyone. It seems it has gotten away from the Losties this year. Have you noticed that Ben is in just about every episode now? The show used to be about the Losties with brief glimpses of the Others. Now, its about how much Ben controls everything and everyone on the island, and even off of the island. He now has Sayid going around killing untold numbers of people in the FF and all it took was a folder with a few pictures in it. Again, another example of the Ben centric show that Lost has become.
I think I was disappointed more because I know that Ben survives what ever happens to the folks on the island. I do love his character, but I hate how he screws with everyone's minds. I would just like to see a little revenge fall on him. I did like the beginning of season 4 where he was getting the crap beat out of him every five minutes! That was fun!
