I have to assume he was thinking that once he was out of the picture they would pack up and leave. Leaving everyone else behind, wondering "what was that all about?"

I personally think they were hired from whomever Abbadon is working for because Ben discovered something on that island that is of extreme importance (my personal belief is time travel or something along those lines regarding the casimir effect that's already been shown with the island.) If Ben is killed, they would become a HUGE threat to the Losties because they would have killed the ONE thing they came all that way for. That would make them the threat where as right now, they aren't so much.

I would have to think that he said "were" because he said "every single living person on this island will die if they are called"

Once Ben is dead, Locke and company would not know how much of a threat they "were" after whatever they would do to the Lost gang.

Or like lostNspace said, Ben dies, the frieghties peaced out, maybe/maybe not taking anyone with them back to the real world.

Its def something to look out for.

My thoughts on the others is when miles calls the freighter and asks to speak to a guy (cant remember his name) and the woman hes speaking to says hes cant come to the phone or hes not there and sounds flustered or underpressure.. I think some of the others have made there way to the freighter and taken them or him hostage because Ben says they have somebody from the boat and Ben always has a back up plan for everything..
I can picture some of the others holding a gun to the woman (on the phone) and telling her what to say. Im sure the others had some other form of transpotaion than the sub..

Ben is very good at people to think they want do what he wants them to do. He has played the long con forwards, backwards, and sideways. He also good at playing people against each other to achieve what he wants. He kind of reminds me of a boss i had a previous job.
