Something to ponder. Could Ben be trying to use Jack to locate Desmond and thus Penny as well? Ben's new motivation is to kill Penny. Being the manipulative person he is, I think he might be using Jack's existing state as a way to achieve his new goal.

Poor Desmond just cant get a break. He finally hooks up with the love of his life and now evil Ben is gonna whack his girl!

Why would Ben want to kill Penny? That's not making sense to me. Widmore, maybe, but not Penelope.
