Remeber, man of sience and man of faith....JOhn is the man of Science and jack is the man of faith.
So in order to accept Sciences you need faith, that it is true....So in order for the Island to remain in peace(?) John and Jack need to be there. Thats why when jack left, bad things happened. in order for Sciences u need faith. in order for peace you need john and jack.

Yea, I agree. I think the whole Locke vs Jack thing provided the island with some balance/consistency. Without that, it has become very unstable and needs him to return...he wasn't meant to leave in the 1st place.

I agree, they bring each other balance. Both characters are very flawed individuals and have made some bonehead decisions.
In fact, if you look at all the times Jack and Locke were working together - things went better than when they separated. It all got even worse when they split up into two camps.

I tend to agree with the thinking here, that Jack and Locke have a balancing act going on, on the island, but I wonder if Ben wouldn't be using the same argument to convince the 06 that they have to go back.
Ben always has a plan! He wants to keep the island "safe" whatever that means. Is it possible that the only reason they HAVE to go back is to keep Ben "safe?" Maybe Ben's plan is to prevent there being any weak links exposing Ben?
Off-island Jack has started to disintegrate. Hurley is not doing well. Kate's looking very stressed. Aaron's having dreams of Mommy. Sayid's put himself into some risky business. Sun may look strong but what if post partum depression and revenge is turning her into a wacko? Loose lips sink ships. That makes them a very big risk for blowing the whole Big Lie. How do we know the people on the island are actually in danger? If there's one thing I've learned while watching this show, it's to question EVERYTHING!
And if Jience and Laith do get back, will Ben already be 10 steps ahead of them because he's a manipulative genius? Can they unite to defeat the island's Sorcerer who seems to be in control whether he's there in person or not?

I would say Jack is the man of science and John is the man of faith.
But I agree that they bring balance to one another.

I still wonder why Ben let him go if it was so crucial for him to be there...of course maybe it gives Ben a reason to come back to the island, he's a tricky one
Ben: "Sorry Jacob, I had to bring these guys back!" lol

I'm sorry but I have to completely disagree with you that in order to accept science you need faith. No! That is why they are different. Science is proven fact. Faith is accepting things that are unproven. They are opposites really.

I think Ben sent them off of the island (but they had to essentially earn the privilege) for their own safety. If it's true that the island will be in turmoil for season 5 then they are safely tucked away but will have to return eventually.

yep agree, i think that with john and jack people tend to eitehr go with jack or with locke ( personally went for john)
and some evidence for the island wanting them both is when jack shoots teh guns and the gun is empty perhaps the islands power? but if john isnt their ( because hes in the coffin) doesnt that mean it should also be balanced without them? unless the second jack left things jut went wrong, but i guess time will tell
