okay this is just a theory but kate, jack,and hurley all seem to be following in their parents footsteps.

Jack's dad was a drunk, and in the future they show jack all drunk and crazy like his dad.



Also the whole reason that Kate was being chased down by cops was because she blew up her mom's abuseive husband. In the future when kate says "i got to go, he's probably wondering where i am." She could have married someone who is abusive to her,ergo following in her mom's footsteps.




Hurley i'm not completly sure about...but his dad was kinda crazy and hurley ends up in the mental institute. Also, on the island, he fixes up that van and his dad told him to have faith, which is what her was repeating in the van when trying to jumpstart it.

Lostlover, I think you're correct and that's why Jack and Hurley desperately want to get back so the can resolve these issues. But why then does kate not want to go back. Maybe who is ever wondering where she is not abusive, but concerned for her safety. maybe she is happy when she gts back.

there does seem to be similarities for sure. however, if kate is in an abusive relationship yet it seems more appealing to stay in that than go back to the island....

I agree I don't think Kate wants to go back because she finally has a normal life or at least better than it was before.If the "He" didn't notice Kate slipped out to meet Jack ,(seemed pretty late),than or course if he woke he would wonder where she is,a normal reaction I think.

Maybe Kate just hasn't come to terms with having to go back to the island? In Hurleys flashforward Jack hadn't gone crazy yet. What made Jack realize they needed to go back? Perhaps something will happen to make Kate want to go back too.

maybe kate wants to go back because when jake was telling her that they weren't supposed to leave she starts crying. Maybe she wants to go back but knows that they will never be able to go back.

HMMMM! I didn't realize she was crying. Now i'm just confused. Kate is hot, but way too emotional and with lot of baggage to figure anything out with her. I think we have to assume that because she is close to Jack and he feels a desperate need to go back along with Hurley, then she prob does too.

Ooooh, I never actually thought about Kate being with someone abusive! That could make a lot of sense!
They really all do seem to be ending up in their parent's footsteps, and I bet there's more to come. Already Jin is following in his father's footsteps too, a fisherman.
I really want to know why Jack starts drinking, even in the Hurley flashforward he's drinking. What makes him do it? He's so opposed to it that it must be something really bad!

I never even thought about Jin/fisherman, thanksTQ. I totally agree. How's this thought. Jack, Hurley, Kate, Jin, plus another two who never make their peace with these issues and become just like their parents as the only ones to get rescued and therefore the only ones who must get back or be resigned to a life of misery. They missed their chance for redemption and peace by leaving. Everyone else who resolves their issues can die in peace on the island ,as they should have died in the crash,-ala Charlie.

Yes I think it could well be something like that that decides who stays or goes! But now these people are here for Ben, I'm not sure how it's gonna be decided who stays and goes.
