I try to stay away from being way to out there with my theories, But since we all pretty much agree time travel is impossable. What about going back to the old theory of the island being a "machine" disguised as an island. Could during that bright flash before the island dissapeared it could have been covered with a dome and simply submerged under water giving the appearance of dissapearing? It left ripples remember.

Sirchen, I really enjoy your posts and repect your opinion. I would agree that with current technology time travel is not feasible. But, many respected physicists speculate that time travel is realistically possible. Anyway, I realize that wasn't the focus of your post. I, personally find the possibility of the island being a machine, well......way out there:):):)

Could be, didnt Locke say that he saw "mechanical stuff" under the ground when smokie pulled him into the whole?

Could be an alien spaceship.

They already said that there weren't aliens. But the machine idea is nice. Sort of like in Stargate Atlantis where they submerge. That would explain the "ploop" or "sploosh" or whatever you want to call it.

I thiink it's entirely possible that the island is a machine or ship of some sort. I also believe it time traveled.

I don't recall John going under the ground, he was hanging onto the edge of the hole asking for Jack to let him go.

I was thinking his head did go below the ground as well. But I'm not sure. I'll try to check it out.

being ab ex-submariner I like the idea and if they harness the electromagnetic energy they could have enough power for it to possibly work my only thing about it though is that there simply isn't enough manpower to run something that large. on a nuclear fast attack submarine there is about 180 people on board and everyone needs to work together to keep it running best it can. another problem is how did ben wind up in tunisha then? if time travel isn't possible then how come space travel is? one minute on island next in tunisha miles apone miles away. like I said though I like the idea but I just done think its possible

Either way I don't remember him mentioning seeing mechanical stuff, nor do I find any references to it anywhere. Seems like that would be something that would be discussed a lot if it were said.

Just remembered, this theory sort of goes along with the strange mechanical clanking sounds of smokey.

i have been wondering if the island is some kind of vessel or machine as you say. it seems to make an awful lot of sense.

Hmmm, but the Smoke Monster is all clanky and stuff while above the ground. If the clanking were a machine I would think the clankiness would be contained to where the actual machine is.

Last year I posted about a dream I had where deep beneath the island was a whole other facility with a ton of stuff happening down there. We're so far out there with a moving island now, who knows?

Is the smoke monster clanky above ground or just hissy? Remember, it goes underground. The trees falling over and clanking goes together too, sort of reminds me of the underground monster in Tremors.

I also think we have heard the smoke monster "clanking" above ground. Specifically, I'm remembering when Smokie and Eko had a "staring" contest, and we had a really good look at Smokie. I would have to re watch to be certain.

Well, Sirch, that's one freakin' big machine, then... On the other hand, Desmond did exclaim in exasperation, "We're in a bloody snow globe!" , so that could be a little evidence there, you think? (just trying to support my way-out-there-pal);)

I just saw that episode last night. John's head didn't go underground. He looked down once for a brief moment, but didn't put his whole head under. To me, it looked to dark to see anything, but you never know.

Also, he didn't mention anything about seeing mechanical stuff, in that episode. I'm starting Season 2 shortly, and if he mentions anything about it I will post here.

Yes it would be, this theory kinda reminds me of the submersable oil drilling rig from the movie "The Abyss".

Thanks BroDez. I stand corrected. But why do I have a vivid memory of Locke saying that? Wierd!

He still could in a future episode, he just didn't in that particular episode. After Locke was almost pulled down the hole, Jack and Locke had their science vs. faith talk.

Hey bro! I didn't realize you were here. My computer clock and this site's clock aren't in sync for some reason. You could be right, maybe a different episode.

Haha, I'm always here, buddy! I'll probably start watching Season 2 tonight, if I hear Locke mention any mechanical stuff, I will be sure to let you know.
