tonight's recap of season finale....I don't get what the deal was with tom and his buddy on the beach, why did they not kill them? did they disobey ben or was ben only pretending and they knew they were not really supposed to kill them? i'm glad they are not dead, but it just doesn't logically make sense why they wouldn't kill them. Also, did jack answer either or neither when asked if he was a friend or family to the deceased? i swore he said either...

I played my DVR back 3 or 4 times and he says EITHER!!!!!! not neither. what does this mean? but in the words at the bottom of the screen that they distractingly added tonight they quote him as saying neither. I have no idea who is in that dang coffin.

I thought that " Mr. Friendly" said to his buddy that ben had " lost it".( not sure of the exact words). Lost what? His mind? his control of the group? his control of the whole situation? We'll never know thanks to sawyer.

Hello all, this is by the way my first post here, he said neither, this led me to think of who would have neither friends or family. I thought back to Lock's flashbacks, all of his family had died, or paralyzed him, and he had no social ties as could be seen in the awkward phone relationship that he had with the operator of the phone sex company, so obviously no one would be attending his funeral. If it is Locke in the coffin, then there has to be some sort of rift between Locke and the rest of the group, i.e. Lock sabotaging their efforts to get off the island, this causing the losties that do get off to become angered so much no not consider him a friend and not attend his funeral as was the case with Kate not showing up. Locke had no friends or family.

Yea he definitely said neither, and this is confirmed by the writers of lost because during the show, they had little facts that showed up on the bottom. They said "one of the mysteries right now is who is in the coffin... who is NEITHER a friend or family"

It also could be BEN, cuz Kate asked "WHY would I go to the funeral"... but Jack thinks they made a mistake by leaving the island... and Ben was neither a friend nor his family. Ehh ehh?

I could also see it being Ben, as Kate wouldnt have gone to Ben's funeral, all of Ben's friends (the others) would still be on the island, and Ben was neither friend or family of Ben. Also ben's father and mother are both dead and we know of no brothers or sisters.

HOWEVER, if someone had no friends or family to attend their funeral, then who would pay for/make all of the funeral arrangements/ run the obituary in the LA paper? People who have no one to claim them are sent to the state, from here their bodies are given to mortuary students who then embalm and then directly bury them, they dont hold "viewings for the unclaimed"..... so this is either a slip up by the writers, or we cant simply just say that its Ben or Locke.

Good point. You'd think that at least the person who would have picked the funeral home and paid for it would have attended the funeral. Those things aren't free. Unless Oceanic paid for it which is actually very possible and maybe probable.

My friend thinks when it is said and done the series will end with a strung out Charlie waking up on an airplane
from a bad trip on something or another looking around only to realize that all the players in the show are people on his flight some in first class some in second class.

im not 100% positive, but i believe that theory has been discredited by the writers, the dream/bad trip theory that is

I thought he said either which leads me to beleive it was someone he liked, but Kate did not, because of her reaction. If he said neither that means he wasn't to fond of the person but maybe went out of curiosity or closure. confusing

The enhanced version said Neither. As far as who paid for the viewing, it said in the newspaper clip that the man was survived by his teenage son...so if the clipping was seen correctly, then the man who's name starts with a *J* is the one in the coffin.

Of course this is LOST....so who is to say that this funeral is the same one. :D

Here's a link I saved from last year.....it shows the newspaper clipping....

Sorry it's so long.....don't know how to make it inside text...lol
