I just wanted to mention something about Christian. Since I have been rewatching season one I wanted to listen carefully about a few points. I have posted in the past that there is a good possibility that when the plane crashed it broke through some kind of time difference on the island and that Christian may actually be alive. In other words, the island may be just a few days behind up to maybe a week with real world time. Well, here's what I found that just may support this.
In the season one finale, when Jack was at the ticket counter he was arguing with the Oceanic rep. The rep was telling him that he didn't have the proper paperwork to take a coffin on the plane. He was saying, very loudly in fact, that he just wanted to get Christian back as fast as possible and have the funeral home meet him at the airport in L.A. and in 16 hours he wanted to bury him. He wanted it all finished as quickly as possible. So, I now take it that Christian had to have passed away right before Jack got there. Jack wanted to do the deed quickly.
Also, back on the island when Jack and Sawyer are saying their farewells before the raft left Sawyer told Jack something about Christian. He had realized that he had met him in a bar in Austrailia and shared a few drinks. He heard Christian use a phrase that Jack had also used and had listened to his stories about his doctor son back home and their issues. Sawyer told Jack about this event. The important thing I thought was that Sawyer said he just had drinks with Christian not a week before they crashed!
Okay, I know it doesn't prove anything but I think the timeline is interesting enough to possibly lend support to what I had posted. If the plane broke through some kind of bend in time around the island when it came down and it was not enough of change to make an obvious difference, like with Claire's pregnancy, then when the plane crashed Christian could have actually found himself alive in the coffin! Jack had seen him on the island almost immediately after the crash. Jack had also found the coffin and it was empty. Christian was a physical being walking around! Interesting, isn't it?

Christian may have passed away not long prior to Jack's arrival in Australia, but I don't think that has anything to do with Jack wanting to bury his father immediately. I took the airport scene as Jack wanted to bury Christian as soon as possible so he, Jack, could move past the issues he had that stemmed from his relationship with Christian.

Agreed, as did I. But I am also saying that it possibly lends support to the idea that he is really alive on the island. We know that the island is on a little different time than the rest of the world. I think that this occurs do to the electromagnetic radiation from the exotic matter. Compasses are incorrect. North is not where it should be on the compass because of the EM. Also, as Daniel noted, the scattering of the light is different. That is caused by the EM as well. Scientifically speaking, time dilation would cause the effect I am talking about with Christian. This is from Wiki about it but just keep an open mind and think about it blended with a little bit of poetic license by the writers:
Gravitational time dilation is the effect of time passing at different rates in regions of different the higher the local distortion of due to gravity, the slower time passes. Albert Einstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein) originally predicted this effect in his theory of relativity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity) and it has since been confirmed by tests of general relativity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tests_of_general_relativity).
This has been demonstrated by noting that atomic clocks at differing altitudes (and thus different gravitational potential) will eventually show different times. The effects detected in such experiments are extremely small, with differences being measured in nanoseconds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanoseconds).
Since the writers have already apparently taken some poetic license with real quantum physics why wouldn't they do it with this also? I am just saying it is a possibility but that is now is becoming a probability with this additional support. Maybe?????

i never considered christian to be alive.i always imagined him t b like charlie (whatever that is lol) dead but still here. the way u put it though yes i cld see if the plane did travel backwards in time, he could be alive but whatever he is he is not suprised t be there and obvious knows what is going on. the fact he instructed vincent (lost missing pieces) to find jack shows is a big player in all of this

The fact that he appears both on and off the Island and that he runs around the jungle in a suit that never gets dirty or rumpled tells me that something supernatural is happening.

Yeah, I tend to think that too, but NotSoLost made good points.
Did anyone notice if Claire was wearing the same clothes in Aaron's bedroom as she had on when she was sitting with that goofy look on her face in the cabin with Christian? Because both of them seem to be in the same state, whether that is undead or still alive and kicking...
One other thing I wonder about with the time thing going on is that possibly this may be why pregnant women only go to 2nd term then abort. Maybe that's all the fetus can thrive until... or begins to birth early and spontaneously aborts...

Im pretty sure that the producers have steated that Christian is indeed dead. I dont remember where I read it but I will try and find it.

Her is the link and here is the quote.
Christian's death, though not shown on-screen, has been confirmed in a Official LOST podcast (April 20, 2007 Edition). Even further clarification was received in "Access: Granted", when Carlton Cuse stated "In terms of actually physically corporally in existence... he's dead".

But this dosent mean that he isint "alive" in a certin sense, such as he still influances the world around him.

Hi everyone, Just got approved for my account and I saw this post and I thought:
Well if Christian were to have become "un-dead" when the plane was crashing, don't you think that he would've felt something when he hit the ground in his casket?
I'm not sure if that really would matter or not, but just a thought.

He's dead. Like Boutte mentioned, Christian has appeared on and off the island, and he also "magically" made a brief appearance before the freighter blew up. So he's definitely more of a ghost/spiritual-like (island reincarnation maybe?) figure.

Goodrich--Is that a "Yoda" cat? Very cute!!
Christian could be made of antimatter according to something I read on the CERN site. If you go to the Antimatter Academy on Antimatter Mirror of the Universe (CERN website) it says that a piano made of antimatter would look exactly the same as a piano made of matter. Have our island apparitions fallen into some antimatter universe?

NotSoLost and Everybody thinking about who and what Christian is, time bending and all, what do you think about these quotes from the CERN site: Antimatter Academy, Antimatter Mirror of the Universe...?
"If there was antimatter around here, around us, it would annihilate with matter and we would see light coming out. An object made of matter and one of antimatter would both stand on the floor, the latter one not flying off into the sky..."
This under Everyday section of Antimatter Mirror of the Universe:
"The mixing of matter and antimatter is almost certainly the most efficient kind of power source that a starship could use (and one of the best scientific features of Star Trek): antimatter (FROZEN antihydrogen) is handled with magnetic fields, and never allowed to touch normal matter..."
These books were referenced under the Everyday section, a Sci fi list of books on Antimatter and matter in the Antimatter Academy at CERN:
I Am A Stranger Here Myself by J. Bridger 1950
"Mankind learns from Aliens how to travel faster than the speed of light by "multi-phase travel" based on transforming matter into antimatter."
Fireball By P.C.W. Davies 1987
Davies depicts worldwide disaster from an infall of meteorites made of antimatter.
Turn Left At The Moon by R.L Forward 1985
A short story about the wonders of a cheap antimatter world economy.
Placet Is A Crazy Place by F. Brown
The planet Placet orbits 2 stars- one made of antimatter.
A Wreath of Stars by B. Shaw
An antineutrino world passes near Earth.
Flatlander by L. Niven
An antimatter object is at the edge of known space.
Broken Symmetries by P. Preuss 1983
A fictional particle accelerator is built by Japanese and Americans to study proton-antiproton interactions. A political struggle ensues over the production of large quantities of antiprotons for antimatter space propulsion."
In my opinion there is something about Christian that is more scientific than paranormal. I'm not sure how this fits with time travel, time bending, and all. Maybe somebody can make connections that I can't.
That goes for Claire and Charlie. And is Charlie's "You All (Are?) Everybody" song a hint of the symmetry between matter and antimatter? I just don't understand it.
Sorry to get off the beaten path here but since we have no beaten path ....
and all roads lead to theories....
Anyone who wants a concise and simple to understand explanation about matter and antimatter google CERN and find the Antimatter Mirror of the Universe at the Antimatter Academy. Oh yeah, and the design on all of the faces of the CERN particle detector's outer plates (an octagon shape) looks exactly the same as one on the Octagon global logo. It's the only plate or section that's divided into two distinct parts. Anything?:)

I like where you are going with this very much. I have posted about a mirror universe in the past. Here's something else that may lend itself to the matter vs. anti-matter theory. When Dr. Haliwax/Candle/Wickmund did his experiment with the bunny and it came back when it was still present he was very adamant about not letting it see itself or something along those lines. Suppose one were matter and one anti-matter...if the two came together then boom!
Charlie is definitely a very important factor in all of this. Not just his character. After rewatching the series again (and now I'm starting for the 2nd time) without season 4, I noticed when he first placed the white tape around his four fingers he wrote...L - A - T - E. Later on in the show, I guess it may have been after he dropped them as a signal to where he was being taken after capture, his tape now says (and until the end of the show) F - A - T - E. That is a strange difference to me. LATE vs. FATE. Late as in dead? Fate is in alive? I don't know. There was something on one of the DVD's from the writers about the words to the song though. It came from somewhere specific and he did not really say it related to the show. Who knows? I have said before that they lie!!!!
I think that maybe the DI was trying to created their own particle accelerator in their experiments with the exotic matter in order to create a black hole. This could be entirely possible. There are many things that point to a particle accelerator.
As far as Christian being alive or dead. No one can address which dimension he is alive in and which he is dead in. Anyone out there want to give that one a try? If the island is moving in the fourth dimension of spacetime, then he could be alive.

I love all the research opportunities now and Lost is definitely quickly becoming not just a show, but waaaaaay more than that. It still amazes me how much thought is going into this show.
