View Full Version : A theory on travelling - no panic!

Before I start with this little theory I have to mention that 1st I'm influeced by many many posts, theories and information and 2nd at the moment I'm reading one of my favourites writers: Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guido to the Galaxy)

Ok, let's start: When there is a discussion about travelling, most of the time it's a travelling through space OR time.
Of course there are many scientific theories but in principle they all say that space and time are conditioned to and depend on each other. (As an explanation: even if you start at point A and end at point A (just travelling through time), there is a miscible time of not being there, so you might be at some point A, same in reverse for space travelling).

But fortunately space and time are not the last dimensions. So go on and image your own 5th/next dimension: What is it? What's its function? So one possible answer: it's "probability". (Do you mention the Hitchhiker?)
This means you can not only travel through time and space, but also through the probabilities! (There is not just one earth, at one point, at one time and in one variation; it exists everywhere, at any time, in all possible forms.)
It's because there exists e.g. - on the same co-ordinates (space and time)- an other planet earth, which obeys to other rules or possibilities.
In "Hitchhikers Guide" such travelling is possible. (And the guide therefore is a bird, just if you already thought about the birds in Lost)
It's not a real kind of theory but I can say:
1. The island is not only moving/travelling through the space-time continuum but also on a probability-axis.
2. Space and time can be isolated (quite easy), not so probabilities, and that's the reason why it is so hard to find the island and it rather happens by accident.

So let's see how this fits into Lost:
1. This kind of travelling is dangerous for many reasons. Concerning Lost this could mean that you could lose yourself, see Desmonds "Travelling" at the beginning of season 4: he needs a constant, for him it's Penny (for Daniel it's Desmond, and if you like to speculate, it might be Jacob for Ben). What I want to say is that anybody needs some kind of relation to not get insane. (Or why do you think that they worked so hard on season 1 and 2 to tell us who is related to who?!? Think about Christian on last episodes: he couples one possible world of Claire with one possible world of Jack.)
2. Locke being able to walk after the crash / Rose being healthy again. Or even: a dead Locke in the "normal world", a leading Locke on the island
3. Maybe some people (Hurley?Walt?) are able to see through all this structure. They do not see one possible island, but all possible possibilities (sorry!) of the island (that's maybe why only Hurley can see Dave on the island, or that's why he get visited from Charlie, who would have survived on an other island, also Eko…)
4. Think about the statues with the 4 toes. Just one possible kind of human nature?!
5. To get the u.f.o. hint: so a world have been visited and now have another standard of knowledge (the wheel to move the island…)
6. Why (if so) is Christian alive? His dead body was on the plane, and maybe in this dimension he is still alive...
7. And now there is Dr. Pierre Cheung, sometimes with a healthy hand, sometimes with an implant (or sick arm). And do you remember the videos, sometimes it looked like he was older in a newer video, or the oldest video was in colour and the the others in black-white.

As you can see it is not really a theory, but I guess there are some points to discuss.
