Ok, I know this sounds weird, but I think Jack is in the coffin. When he was asked, "Are you family or friend?" he replied, "Neither". He was sooooo distraught that the person died or that no one showed up. Also, when he asked Kate if she went she replied, "Why would I go?" I'm thinking she wouldn't go b/c somehow they all die again and again and again.

I think it's Ben. But because it seems like the most obvious person to be in the coffin, that makes me think it could be someone else, cos the writers are so good at surprises!
And Ben was sick so he could well get sick again and die if he was taken off the island. As long as it's not Sawyer I don't care!

I say none of the above.
If it was Jack wouldn't the funeral guy recognize him immediately? I said this before but no one read it I guess.

at first i was convinced it was locke.. but that was b/c i forgot about michael.. now i think its michael. i wouldnt go to the funeral either.
I think it was Michael. The newspaper clipping said that the deceased had a teenaged son, which would be Walt. Also it makes sense that no one would go to the funeral (he betrayed the Losties and he seemed to be alone in his flashbacks). My question is who bothered to pay for a visitation/funeral if no one was going to come?

Walt's mom is dead so she could'nt pay for a funeral. Maybe it was the guy she left Michael for? Hmmm!!

maybe his savings were used if he had any! or his own mother as we know michaels mother is alive (or was just prior to the crash)
but as someone says, it could be one of the new four in the coffin aswell!

)ceanic paid, or his ex-wife, or maybe an unnamed donor or whatever he might have gotten from a settlement from the crash. All speculation, but it's a good question.

Actually. it's one of the writers in the coffin. His brain exploded trying to think of more twists and turns for all of us to speculate over.

I think it could now be one of the new characters if it's not Ben, which I still think it is!

but why would jack be so visibly distraught if it was michael, i doubt he would care that much, it has to be someone he has a longer time with, locke/ben fit that idea

Jack thinks he must save EVERYONE! He was upset that he could not save that person in the coffin. It does not mean he needed to consider him/her a friend. I think he feels that if he made the right choices on the island that person would not be dead. So he is showing guilt.

Yah its so up in the air right now but I'm leaning towards Ben....he seems to be closer to the group now (even though everyone hates him haha) but who knows in 2 more seasons where they'll stand. Ben knows a lot of stuff and who knows, he may be right about everything!
