Rewatching Season 2 I couldnt help but notice Locke after his therapy group you see Him try to light a smoke but no matter how many time he struck the match it wouldnt light. This is a very strange occurence to me given that Claire tried to sign adoption papers and and no matter ho hard she tried the pen wouldnt work or even when Micheal attempts to kill his self.
Was this a sign of things to come did the island know that John had to go to the island so therefore it would not let him take a chance at smoking.

I don't remember Locke trying to smoke. I guess I'll see it on sci-fi in a few weeks, unless they stop at a certain point for some reason.
That brings me to another point. If I'm remembering correctly, we'll get to see the episode wherein Charlie is left to hang in a tree by Ethan. Seeing Jack try to save Desmond in There's No Place Like Home reminded me of that particular scene. Don't know whether it was intentional or not.

I never saw that until you pointed it out. I love that you noticed that and made the connection you did! Isn't it interesting? Was it just a dramatic prop to show that they shouldn't do what they were doing or was that supposed to have a hidden meaning? I guess I'm voting for the hidden meaning!
But, following that train of thought, why would the island who allowed Christian to become Jacob's spokesman, not have protected Christian from alcohol in the same way? Or did it?

As far as Christian goes even though it was through Sawyer he admitted that he was wrong and wanted to be forgived and that he knew Jack was right in his decision. So when he landed on the Island he was dead so I belive that Jacob chose him for his connection with Claire and Jack who play key roles. There is def a lot to think about but the key was the match not lighting and right after Locke meets a woman for the first time in his life. Another key point is that she said she loved bald men Locke replies im not bald. She says I will wait and of course we can see the balding but maybe she knows alil more about Locke of the future.

I'll tell you one other strange Locke thing I noticed that I hadn't ever noticed before. In season one, Walkabout, when they show Locke at his desk and he begins adding numbers on his adding machine...the sound that the adding machine makes is the same exact sound that the smoke monster makes when it is divided up into the smaller pieces and moves! If you listen closely you can hear it.....clickitty, clickitty, clickitty.....very, very strange!!!
