I've had this theory for a while, but have felt to overwhelmed by the mass amount of other lost forums and their technicality to post my views. As for lost.com/forums there's more of a sense of informality as it's in its early stages so I feel more at ease to give an opinion, so here goes!

As we know, the six numbers add up to 108 an I have been playing with these seven numbers since we first saw them. When I wondered how many times they pushed the button in a day, I did the maths and found strangely the number was fairly round: 13.333333333 times. I thought nothing more until at school in my astronomy lesson we learned about satellites and how a new satelite to orbit earth was sent into space, which could orbit Earth 40 times in 3 days, coincidence? My astronomy teacher said it was roughly 2 hours, but he's no lost fan or maths geek like me so when it came to 108 minutes I was gobsmacked. Could the entering of the code which is done 40 times in 3 days exactly to the second be a signal to an orbiting satelite? Am I onto something? probably not, but I'd love to hear your thoughts! *breathes*

I hope this forum stays informal and not so technical. I think you have a very good theory. It sounds like one of the most logical ones that I've heard. By Jove! I think you've got it! LOL

I personally wouldn't have done all that math, but you seem to have a valid point. I could be a satellite...or it could be sending a message to the satellite to prevent the island from being located or found once people get off it.

Either way good theory.

that is so fitting. I like this theory, may pan out, stinkin stelites ruin the night sky tho....

A satellite far away from the Earth will orbit slowly and a closer one will orbit faster. Think of how Mars is further from the Sun and takes longer to orbit the Sun than the Earth. I think 108 minutes is plausable for a satellite. Somehow, it seems too easy. There is going to be a twist somewhere, and I'll bet it involves time travel and Polar Bears :)

polar bears!!! wooooooooooooooooo!

like the satellite theory, but i thought the numbers were just the valenzettie equation, that they were trying to change one of these numbers to save the world? my brain hurts now.

Nikkos, I really love this theory! I really love "gobsmacked" too. Funniest single word I've heard in a long time. Anyway, On another board we were discussing why there were food drops still occuring and my thought was the numbers being input signaled to the outside world that everything was going to plan and everything was okay, therefore send more food. To me it makes even more sense that the signal was going to a sattelite in outer-space cause if it was just broadcast over the regular airwaves, somebody would have been able to locate the Island a long time ago. Now having said all that, it must have been aimed very specific (up) cause as we know, NO transmissions was supposed to be able to leave the Island. I think I just talked myself in a circle.

Anyway, I like the satelite theory>

(Tried to use the edit function but it would not work)

Sorry for the double post, but......

All our JOIN DATES is 1/08! COOL HUH?

The only thing is that they are resetting about every 104 minutes or so. So after a few cycles they are going to be way off.

Yes that is correct, so they would end up being way off over a long period of time.

Speaking of English, what do you all think about Desmonds girl from England and the call she received at the end of Season 2? Do you think that is related to this satellite theory?

Nikkos, I am an Astronomer myself and your theory id not surprise me. I do believe that everything going on on the island does not have scientific explanation. If you make a connection between numbers and a signal being send to some artificial satellite, what can you say about magnetic field that almost destroyed the island? Honestly, I think it is more sci-fi and miracle based than anything.
