I just saw something that caught my attention. When "Dave" has Hurley at the cliff trying to talk him into jumping, Before he falls over he says, "See ya in another life, Hurley". HMMMM--- Now there has got to be a connection with these four. Hurley in nut ward with Libby. Libby gives boat to Desmond wich lands him on island.Dave uses Desmonds signature saying, "See ya in another life" wich he says to Jack at the stadium. Any thoughts??? I see a common thread here. And I apologise if this has been brought up befor!

I just finished watching that too, Lindy. I thought the same thing. Not sure what to make of it tho.

Lindy, when that was first on, I just thought, "Wha??"
But if we think outside the box, like you did, it could be that certain peeps have an interesting involvment, maybe like time lords, and we definitely shouldn't discount that Libby chick. The moment she said she was a psychologist, I started to mistrust her despite all the sweetness.
(and I mean, who meets someone in an airport and gives them a boat? Unless it's orchestrated.) Good catch on Dave/Libby/Des connection, Lindy.

It seems to me that Libby has to make a reappearance in season 5. She's been involved in to many important incidents that need further explanation.

Good point! Multiple time dimensions? Parallel universes? Time loops? IDK. I thought it was a funny twist that Hurley found Dave's slipper just like the prince found Cinderella's glass slipper. Remember she was running down the steps to get away before her time ran out.
But here the person who owns the slipper doesn't want to marry you--- only to kill you! Dave was definitely NOT dressed in any finery as Cinderella was and he was diving down off a cliff. So did Dave need the water as a conductor for his time travel? Like Widmore left the water running in the men's room?
He did seem to be in some kind of hurry to get away himself. Most of our Lost apparitions haven't had a long run and only usually appear for a very brief time. That "See ya" comment is a very good connection. They say something like they are "dropping" clues all over the place.....

So are we saying Dave is a real person and not in Hurleys mind? That he is able to Jump interdimensionally through time. Is there a relation between the Dave and the numbers? Did Dave influence hurley to find the numbers, because without them he would have never been on that plane in the first place.
That raises a question about the numbers, were they coordinates of the old location of the island? Is the Island a constant for the interdimensional traveler?

You raise some piercing questions! I think Dave was always trying to get Hurley to do something against the rules. Some things that LOOKED like they were not in Hurley's best interests. Don't take the pills. Don't listen to the doctor. Let's eat some more fattening food. Hang with me. You don't need any exercise. You don't need this place. Let's run away.

Then on the island it was a "You are not worthy gig" and let's jump off this cliff. Whee! Either Dave is a real antagonist or he is a figment of Hurley's alter ego. The ego that usually gets us into trouble, I think.

Or the third possibility is that Dave is someone sent through time to test Hurley, to see which way Hurley will go. A sort of tempter to get Hurley as you say on that plane and to have him wind up on the island. But wherever you go there you are! Was Libby being there (Santa Rosa, Australia, and the island) looking different in each setting in order to do the job she was meant to do? Would Desmond have taken the sailboat from a wimpy, wrecked and sick looking person?

Maybe Santa Rosa is the Greyhound Bus terminal of time. Which way is Hurley going? Choose Dave or choose Life? He has to make his choice. It's called free will. Hurley had to decide. He can't escape the numbers. None can. I don't think we'll ever find out what the numbers really mean. There are some mysteries that have no answers. We may be forced to treasure them. That's the lure of Lost, but that doesn't keep any of us from still asking the question! The squeaky wheel always gets the oil.
Treasure them.

I understand what everyones saying in this thread and its funny that Libby plays a role in the reason for these two to be on the island. The writers i belive said Dave was not real at all. However this plays true for all the characters of Lost Sayid going to find Nadia, Kate being taken back by the Marshal Locke being told by Abaddon to go on a Walkabout examples. There is a backstory or everyone of the characters and a connection for all. Hurleys I admit is very strange because hey show a flashback of him at Santa Rosa through Libby while he is taking the picture with Dave while she was staring at him. Its funny they picked that moment to show her flashback and the fact that her husband that died was named Dave. I would love to see his picture!!!! Now Hurley doesnt know Libbys Dave but on the Island Locke has experiences where he has seen the ghost of someone like Yemi and heard Boone speak of Teresa. The doctors said that Dave was a figment of his imagination for his eating disorder but, Dave very well could be Libbys husband and at the time could have been seeing him to this would be a reason for her being in Santa Rosa. On the island Dave appears to Hurley I dont think because he is hording a food stash but because he is either jealous Libby has moved on or is testing Hurley to see if he is worthy for her. Then Dave jumps and Hurley chooses Libby over death. One last point to Dave being Libbys deceased husband is that she told Hurley she liked big men.

That IS a really good catch! There are so many coincidences in this programme for them not to mean something.

BucFan, you have made some very good connections here. Every time I post something about a character I always think what if it's the exact opposite of what I've just said! I would love to know the back story for Libby, why her husband died, why she was in Australia, the way she showed up when Hurley was getting ready to jump, and so on. Is her husband the Dave in Santa Rosa?
I don't believe everything those writers say, do you?

Two things...
What was the name of Libby's husband that died?
I think that Dave was really the smoke monster just taking on another form again.

As I posted earlier his name was Dave/David. However the writers had a video go out where they list some of the smoke monsters forms and Dave they refered to him specifically. I really feel though Dave is Libbys Dave in my post earlier she was at a dead stare on Hurley taking photos with Dave. Maybe she has the power to manipulate minds and make things appear to other ppl. Maybe Dave is her minds eye projecting Daves image to Hurley. There are some paranormal things going on in Lost and some very special beings that make things happen. Walt and the birds,Locke and the rain,Ben and Smokie for examples.

I did some checking and TPTB said that they are two different Dave's. So, I have to take that back unless, of course, they are not telling the truth. I have been leaning to Libby also being a "time lord" type of person, like Mrs. Hawking and Brother Campbell are. Well, we think they are.
As far as so many special paranormal things going on...well, yes and no. I think that alot of what we see is just plain coincidense. I think that TPTB want us to read toooooo much into everything, so I tend to take it all with a grain, as they say.
