View Full Version : Ben shooting Charlotte - faked?

Did anyone else feel like something wasn't quite right when Ben shot Charlotte? None of the other freighter four appear to be wearing a vest. Seems like they would equip themselves in a similar fashion for a mission. Is Charlotte working for Ben? I've been feeling like it was a contrived situation, perhaps meant to help Charlotte be further accepted by the troop. And maybe Charlotte is "the man on the boat".

Eh I don't think so, for all we know the other 3 may have a vest on as well...even Daniel was carrying a gun and told Kate it was for protection. She seemed surprised he would need protection, so it doesn't surprise me that Charlotte would have the same.

Ok. this was my first thought. Ben is trying to prove something. At this point its like "ok he knows her name and what she does, so what, you knew all about us too" so he needed something else to get his point across and he knows their mission so im sure he knew she would be wearing some sort of armor. I think he shot her to prove without the shadow of a doubt that he can be trusted because the losties would think "if she is really here to rescue us why would she be wearing a bullet proof vest? what would she need it for?"

VERY good point, I think he knew she would be wearing a vest for that same reason however I don't think she's working with him.

Yeah, I considered the other three might have a vest on but went back and watched enough tape that I'm positive Frank does not and pretty sure Miles does not. Daniel might under his long sleeve shirt and tie.

Well, honestly. Frank being a pilot he might not have expected to be doing anymore than flying the chopper.

Somebody told me the same thing today. I find it hard to believe but who knows.

I would have to think that Charlotte wore a vest because she going into "hostile territory". I get the feeling that Frank is just the the pilot. Near the end of S4-2 he said " It's your gas" to Dan. I assume he is under the assumption that he is the transportation. So he may not be aware of the danger on the island.

i agree that ben knew she would be wearing one so shot her to make everyone aware of it, thus they may begin to question their trust in her and start to doubt things.

You're on to something here! Very astute observation. It's just too much of a set-up. I think she is connected to Ben. Just exactly how will play itself out, I'm sure. She probably won't last long and this was the clue that her time is very very short. If she becomes a major player then there's a whole lot more we're going to ask about her.

Yeah, Navyguy is on to something. Dan and Miles looked at/ treated the 815's pretty much the same way Frank looked at the bull. Kind of like "what are you doing here ?" Charlotte was interested in the 815's from the start.
Or.. just a changing my mind again, she saw Ben and played like she was interested. I think I'll go with undecided.

her answer to 'why do you wanna know?' - 'why wouldnt i wanna know?' was a total cop out aswell and that made me instantly suspiciousof her.

Ooh I really think you're on to something there! I really think you might be right! She's the one person out of the four that is most suspicious!

She's definitely got the hardest personality out of the lot, she's very strong and the most stable. And if Locke thinks she's lying then I take Locke at his word!

For the life of me I played that over and over and just couldn't make out what she says. But you're right, she says she can't find her vest and then Miles says "take mine" and hands her one. That's a little different twist then. So now, in the middle of a potential copter crash, the most important thing on her mind is her vest. I think I'd be worried about a few other things first. Like LIVING!

That does not make much sense. They were frantically trying to get out of the plane. Did they strip their parachute packs, jumpsuits, shirts, etc. to get a bullet proof vest exchanged? Remember that Dan was wearing a vest over his clothes with the blinking thingy. Maybe it was pilot Frank who said take my vest (with the thingy). He did not have one when he landed. He used a flare gun. I'd have to watch it again.

Miles doesn't actually strip down and remove a vest. He reaches over his shoulder and pulls what appears to be a vest off a hook or hanger and tosses it to Charlotte.

but i think the point is - how would charlotte have had time to take all her gear of to get it onbefore jumping?
then again we dont know how long it is before she jumps from dan jumping!

Hmmm ... true. So when did she put it on? Not when she hit the ground. As far as we know she spent most of her time upside down in that tree and Locke and the gang came along right after she landed in the water. She's not been out of anybody's sight ever since. So somehow she got it on before she left the copter. And that goes back to my question, if you're about to crash and you need to jump, are you going to worry about a kevlar vest first?

charlotte's introductory scene depicted her finding the polar bear remains in tunisia. whether she does or does not become a major player, we can at least assume she'll be sticking around.

Oh I def think Charlotte is going to become a major player....she's on that island for a specific reason and I don't think its JUST to get Ben. When she found that polar bear in Tunisia, she wasn't even a bit surprised...almost like she expected to find it along with the Dharma logo. I'm sure she's been studying the Dharma people for years and maybe has an alternative reason for being on that island.

Maybe she knows nothing about Dharma but the people who chose her (reasons not yet known) enticed her by setting up a fake dig. Maybe they said go here and you will find a remain that is out of place and it will have a funny looking collar... so when she found this "set up" her reaction would be like WOW they were right.
(I'm not sure I am explaining this correctly)
