View Full Version : Island back in time or not?

Hey guys
So is everyone thinking the island has gone back in time for the 5th season?
The writers have said it's not just ''where'' the island has gone but ''when''
and also the promo appears to show juliet rediscovering the hatch, a man like kelvin in a haz suit and the plane falling from the cliff top.
if they do this surely it wont mean all the previous cast comming back from the dead?
would be cool but too much i reckon.
What do we all think?

I don't think the island went back in time. I believe it went forward in time like Ben did when he wound up in Tunisia.

If the Island is on some kind of loop, or in some closed time circuit, wouldn't it be possible to go so far forward that it winds up in the past? Maybe it doesn't go so far as to travel to the 815 crash, but some time before that when some of the DI were still on the Island.

I suppose you are right. If the island is traveling in a CTC then they could be thrust so far forward that they are actually in the past! Good point Brother Des. Indeed, good point.

Maybe it breaks out of the loop and starts a new timeline?

Isn't it Newton's law that for every action there's an opposite and equal reaction? So if Ben is shot out into the future then it could make sense that the island has gone back into the past or has been moved to another dimension of the island's past. (boutte's idea?) Following that line of thinking, if there is a black hole related to the island (Big IF), then what about the black hole which feeds on energy, light and matter, being connected at the other end to a white hole which only emits or exudes the same? White holes are just a theory but so were black holes not too long ago. One phenomenon would take in and the other would pass it on out like a giant alimentary canal or digestive system. People on the island might find themselves in a strange new world on the island just as Ben has gone to the future to a fairly familiar one in Tunisia. I doubt that this idea holds water but I'm putting it out there anyway.:D

That's very good. I posted about that somewhere here. A black hole connected to a white hole by a wormhole. I had found some interesting pictures (artist renderings of course) online and it started me thinking about that. I agree. A good possibility.

I don't know for sure, but it really could be that the island moved back in time.
If you watch the new music video by "The Fray", towards the end, there is a scene with Juliet, Sawyer etc. standing at a place which looks like the place where the survivors built the "houses", but nothing's there. Maybe that's why all of them are looking so wondering.
Because the island moved back in time and all the "houses" were never built.
Just a thought......

Also take a good look at things in the video. Juliet is wiping away dirt from what looks like the little window on the hatch, Daniel is being held at gunpoint by a man in a hazmat suit (kelvin?) at the regular swan entrance, we also have "new" people on the island with not so modern weapons. You would think if widmore sent more people after those still on the island (he only knows of the 6 btw) he wouldn't send bow and arrow wielding warriors.
Also I am replying to the comment on the creating of a new timeline. Darlton has stated in a previous podcast that they do not believe in paradoxical time travel. Paradoxical meaning that nothing that is done in "re-living" past events can change the future (for example there is nothing that can be done to prevent 815 from crashing). If 815 were prevented from crashing a separate timeline would be created, hence forming a paradox.
Knowing this, there could be some events in island flashbacks that we have seen (ex. the purge) that actually could include the aid of "the left-behinders"

It sounds like the island may have traveled almost "full circle" in a spacetime curve and wound up back at the point that Desmond's boat crashed on the island or even before. Instead of it being Des that Kelvin finds, now it's Daniel. What hatch do think Juliet is in?
I wonder if those bow and arrow weilding warriors are the ancients that we know existed on the island first. You know, those with four-toes. Or perhaps they were the original occupants of the Black Rock and that was a weapon of choice? I wish I could see the video or some still pictures from it!
As for paradoxical and nonparadoxical, that's why TPTB keep using the phrase "course correction" when the script is addressing this. And this is one big reason that I keep saying everything is on a loop. That's what a Closed Timelike Curve is; a circle in spacetime that you would travel on, ending where you began.

Thank you so much for the link! I have a few observations after playing with the photos in a photo program I have.
The picture of Hurley in a car or suv - is it a Hurley clone or is he possibly dead? There is some kind of weird looking vine or something around his body and across his face. His eyes are closed. Strange. You can also see a blood stain on his shirt on the left side and it appears that his arm is in a sling. I thought it was the seatbelt at first but it goes under his shirt with open buttons. A seatbelt couldn't do that. So, he was shot!
The group picture of people on the beach - I enlarged it and can make out Charlotte and possible Daniel or Richard Alpert in the foreground to her left. It also appears to show Bernard standing about center photo with his arms outstretched. Next to him to the left is Juliet. They are looking at a figure with dark hair wearing a longish brown coat and brown pants. I think that's going to be Jacob!!!! It reminds me of what he was wearing in the rocking chair!
The picture of the folks with the bows and arrows - they are not ancients but modern day folks. You can tell by their hair cuts. They may be Others and it is a weapon of choice.
The best for last folks - the picture of Charlotte. It's a closeup and she is standing next to a fuzzy male image, possibly Charlie! Charlotte is bleeding from her nose. Too much time travel and no constant!!!! WOW! That one was the best one!
Thanks again Monkey-Hands.

No problem man!!! Now I have to take a closer look at the pics. ;)
As for the beach-pic. I think the 2 in front are Miles and Charlotte. Next to Bernard is Sawyer, Juliet and Rose. The others are just other survivors.
The man in the Charlotte close-up is Daniel. You can see it if you watch the video.
Are the people with bows and arrows wearing Dharma suits???
Also, in the video there's one scene where you see Locke from behind and fire in the back. It's Richard who's holding a torch. Did you see how surprised he was when he sees Locke!? They MUST went back in time.

crazy crazy CRAZY thought here. on the previous page someone said that in the end of the fray video it shows the losties who stayed on the island in a place that looks like where all the houses were. and he said maybe they are where the houses USED to be. get THIS. WHAT IF THEY ARE THE HOSTILES. like they've always been there. Dharma arrived, there are people ALREADY there (losties who went back in time) and thats how the whole thing starts!

Hey, NotSO...
This is as good a place as any to ask your opinion on a few things I'd like to know. If you will...
what do you think will happen when Aaron shows up on the island now 3 1/2 yrs old calling Kate Mommy? If Claire is alive or undead...
Where is Michael?
There was no hint at Annie/Ben being addressed in Season 5 thus far. Do you see a Charlotte connection to Annie or their possible child? Who do you suppose may be her Constant that she's evidently lost "constantness" with?
In all this time travelling, do you think EVERYONE has a Constant, the absense of which is causing havoc to them physically on the island?
Do you think Sarah is one of those time lords? (In a deleted scene, one of her schoolkids turned to Jack and said, "I don't trust her." And a now pregnant Sarah responded with a rather peculiar answer to Jack asking her to take him home from the hosp with,"I don't think that would be appropriate."
And she along with Christian seemed to be guiding Jack's course "We're only trying to help you.")
Sorry, I know there's a lot here, but you seem to be one of the few on board who I almost always understand and whose theories I seldom question in my mind.
Whoa! What if YOU are my Constant? YIKES! LOL

I like the back in time theory. The CTC has an appeal. If seems that those on the island go back in time, but the crash still has to happen or the paradox timeline thing happens. So there is a timeline of a crash where their at the bottom of the ocean and it's not a whitmore setup but the course correction is going back to the island to maintain the timeline. I really would like the Rousseou storyline explained. Were her crewmates really sick? was it the lack of a constant and they went mad? Does moving the island also make it happen? Why wouldn't she get sick too? I think it would have answered some therories to know her story. It's dissappointing the writers strike interferred.

previously on "LOST".....
you're absolutely right...Ben moved the island, and at that same moment in time he wound up in Tunisia...recalling the gash in his right arm resulting from the partial fall down the ladder into the island's "movement chamber"..

If they do go back in time will characters who previously died come back to life? imagine charley just walking out of the ocean! That would bring up a lot of sticky situations for some. ethan, libby, ana lucia, KEAMY, the pilot. yikes this is getting too difficult to wrap our heads around

Will Aaron be 3 &1/2 calling Kate mommy? Or will he return to being an infant? Maybe this depends on if the "moving" of the Island means it went into the past, or into the future.

Well, if it is a CTC and it goes full circle, then Aaron will not even be born yet. There are definitely more Time Lords around than we know of yet. I think Rousseau's science team died from time travel. Why she didn't, I don't know. Does Ben have a constant? I don't know. It doesn't look like it though. It may be if you are a "special one" you don't need a constant! Don't even ask me what I mean, because I don't know yet! LOL!!!
