View Full Version : A couple of (not necessarily new) theories

Just thought I'd put these out there.

I think Jacob is Jack's grandfather. At birth, Christian named his son after his father. This would explain why the cabin crew includes Jacob, his son Christian, his granddaughter Claire, and will also soon include his grandson Jack and the great grandson to carry on the legacy, Aaron.

I think the sickness is to do with time travel, as explored in the episode 'the Constant'. When the island moves, it moves into the future, which causes many of the those left behind to start suffering. The only way for them to stay alive therefore is for their only constant, Jack and the Oceanic Six, to return to the island.

One thing that really fascinates me is why in Season 1 Claire gives no explanation as to why her baby is called Aaron. The subject is always avoided but I think it is key to future episodes and the mythology of the program.

Would appreciate others' thoughts (no pun intended) on this one

Interesting. I don't remember any reference to Jacks grandfather. if you were going to name some one after a person named Jacob would you call him Jack?

Why into the future? So far any hint of time travel has involved moving into the past, and not physically. (Did Ben travel forward in time when he moved the Island?) How does your theory tie in with Rouseau's party being inflicted by a sickness? Any hint of time travel there? Also when Locke contacts the O6 quite a bit of time has passed for them. Would not the sickness have pretty much done in every one on the Island who was infected by then. Another case time passing differently on the Island?

Andy What is your theory as to the signifigance of the name Aaron.

If Christian, Jack and Aaron are all first born sons, then that follows the Patriarchy of the Old Testament. Aaron was a 7th generation descendant of Abraham. They have even done genetic testing to determine where that bloodline has gone in the world. ( Remember Bea Klugh took blood samples from Walt and Michael). Aaron's remembered for, among other things, the miraculous blossoming of his staff or wand (baton?) and his families divine mission to care for the tabernacle and later the temple. Aaron's tribe of Levi was given the task of punishing evil doers altho he stood for peace and supposedly was mourned over more than Moses when he died. There's different references to where he died--one of them is listed as in a cave. All this info came from Wiki.

Now here's what's interesting: The wand or rod: Ben's wand or rod might mean he is a guardian of the temple or a usurper of power.( I know who you are boy!) Is he or is he not of the bloodline then? Jack's lying on the beach next to something wandish or rodish looking might not be a coincidence and it might not be bamboo. Maybe we've all been "bamboo"zled!!

Guarding the tabernacle or the temple: Is the cabin the tabernacle? The island? the temple?
Is Jacob a first born son? Is he in the family and as suggested, the grandfather? Head of the Shepherd Patriarchy?

Or is he like "a Levite-a non-Aaronic descendant of Levi, assigned TO ASSIST the Levitical priests of the family of Aaron in the care of the tabernacle, and later the temple."

Looked up JJ Abrams name and found it be of Scottish origin but related to the name of Abraham in the Bible. Just some thoughts......:)

I like ur idea, but sorry to burst ur Bubble on that last thought but to do that you would have to connect Abraham to FRINGE, ALIAS, STAR TREK, CLOVERFIELD, FELICITY, and all this other works.

I see alot of Biblical and Hindu references in the show as well as connections to philosophers, but I would not go as far as doing a 3 point connection (Abraham, JJ Abrams, LOST)

Also keep in mind that Aaron's generation did not enter the promised land. Caleb's generation was the first to set foot in there so if the island is a type of promised land you gotta take that into account

I'd rather they do something else, but this is reminding me of something I think Boone said back in Locke's vision in season 3, just before he starts pushing him around in that wheelchair in the imaginary airport. Something about "Bringing the family back together".

No harm done and no offense taken! I'm forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air" as the song goes. Most of them deserve a short shelf life! LOL

Did Ben travel forward in time when he moved the Island?

Yep, 10 months if I'm right.

Wow, really deep. I'm brand now, so someone else has probably posted this, are the voices heard sporadically actual events from different times?

And what happened to the diamond thieves that were buried alive after being bitten by paralyzing spiders? Anyone think they'll be back in Season 5?

I believe the fate of our Diamond thieves may be summed up in the following:

**clears throat, takes mic**

There was a young man named Paulo
whose script that week was just hollow,
we made it quite clear,
You're not wanted here,
So just go, please don't lead, we won't follow.

There once was a girl named Nikki,
whose taste in men wasn't picky.
They sowed what they reaped,
Wait! They're only asleep!
Oops! So much for Paulo and Nikki.

Thank you. Thank you very much...:) **takes bow**

Ok, so real clear on our thieves, how about the voices in the jungle. "Static" from other times?

Boutte,

In answer to your points, I think Jack could simply be a shortening of the name Jacob. Bearing in mind Jack is not yet aware of Jacob yet, this could open up some interesting possibilities.

In terms of time travel, Ben gets thrown forward into the future by the island moving, because when he arrives in Tunisia he has travelled into the future, because he checks what the date is with check in steward.

Another reason this would make sense is if Rousseau was travelling on the Black Rock back in the 1800s and she along with her crew got thrown forward in time. This would explain why she uses rudimentary instruments (I think I'm leading into another thread which was posted here).

As for Aaron, I don't know why, there's just a massive pause when Claire is asked why Aaron, as if she wants to explain but she can't.

Did anyone see the likeness between Thomas (Claire's boyfriend) and Ben Linus; I think there could be a family connection there.

We really really need season 5 to start.

Isn't Jack a nickname for John and Jake a nickname for Jacob?

OK; fair point about the names, just throwing some ideas out there.

Coming back to the time travel point, something has made the island move in time because there is a clip from the Fray video where there are people holding Daniel and co with arrows. How old school is that?

Can't remember who posted it, but awesome theory about Walt being Matthew Abbidon. Trully awesome.
