I'm starting a Christmas Thread to get everyone in the spirit of Christmas. Here you can post anything Christmas related. Pictures, music etc. Why you like it or dont like it. We can have a Christmas party, give gift ideas or just talk about christmas movies.

Wonderful idea R.I.P!! It's Christmas!!!:D I put decorated Christmas trees all over the house! Most are green and are just a foot tall; some are four feet tall all with handmade ornaments. I love Christmas! It's over the top but what the hey? It's only one time a year!:D

I assume that others here may celebrate other holidays instead, but I don't care. Not like it's the greatest holiday, though. Unlike my birthday, I have to get other people gifts, too. And now that I have money, they'll be expecting me to buy them things rather than fishing for change and going to $ tree or something.

I really hate all the commercialism. I hate all the pressure.

And, to top it all off: my father, who is a self-described hardcore agnostic, insists on celebrating a very traditional Christmas with the elaborately-decorated tree, big meal, family gathering, etc. If he questions the existence of God, why does he still latch on to a holiday celebrating the birth of God's son? Why bother with a tree, decorations, and wrapped presents? Why bother with all of the Burle Ives and Bing Crosby music?

Did I mention his new wife and her family is Jewish?

Idk, I still celebrate christmas even though I don't necessarily have any specific religion. Sure it can or is meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but there's plenty more meaning to it in other ways. Of course there are presents and chocolate and food, and it brings family together for the most part.

Mahalo, not to downplay your frustration here, but you are making me laugh!! This just illustrates the contradictions of all humans! One of my sons, raised to be a Christian, now has at least 25 Buddha's all over his house with equal numbers of monolithic candles. Is he Buddhist? Does he go to a Buddhist temple?---NO. Go figure. Did I mention there are 3 crosses? My husband and I love him very much so we have just accepted the contradictions and try to move on from there.
There's something else. It's called fossilization. Things embedded in our past that remain as we grow older. It happens in language especially. I still say LOOKIT! What I mean to say is Look at that! It's been fossilized into my language and it's very hard NOT to say LOOKIT!! So maybe or maybe not this has something to do with your dad's love of the pomp and pageantry--What he had or what he misses? Anyway you made me laugh! Thanks!:D

I've just been wrapping Christmas gifts - I have WAAAY too much stuff for my Godchildren and don't want to wrap their stuff yet cos I'm gonna get two stockings and put a photo on each of them and put all the little things in those, and then pick out three of the other presents for them to open each when they come up next Sunday, I'm so excited, I love seeing their faces when they open the presents!
And I've organised the work Christmas party for next Tuesday so I'm very happy!

I feel kind of bumbed out this year, for the past 5 years I have played as santa for my little brother, but he's all growed up now and my mom told his last year that santa wasn't real! now I got nothin to do. still though, christmas is my favorite time of year, not for present's or anything like that, its just when I am most creative!.... duck in cover keven.:D:D

I've only ever seen the black and white version of Miracle on 34th street once, and loved it, but they only ever show the coloured version on tv, but I love that one too - the little girl in Miracle of 34th street is actually the image of me when I was that age, it's mad!

My nephew had a sweet little ceremony with their parents and sibs at a courthouse (just before having to run off to Japan) and they actually had a video of it that you could tune in to watch live on your computer, which the rest of us who couldn't be there did. It was short but touching and beautiful! I thought that was an awesome way to share the moment with loved ones. SOOOO.... how 'bout you do something similar and tape it then post it for us?! :)
