Is it possible that Charles Widmore was once the King of Lost Island and that he's just like Ben, trying to return to a place he exiled himself from by turning the wheel?
That's what I thought of too.

The site has a very good picture of the mural from the hatch. In the mural you can see about 23-24 people mostly stick figures. Two of the people have faces and are a man and a woman. They are negatives: one white with black outlines and the male is black with white outlines.
There's sun, the earth symbol (Circle with dot?) and the crescent moon plus stars in the night sky. There are 5 fish-- 3 swimming to your right and 2 going left. 2 or 3 of the fish seem to be an opening into a funnel or tube=like thing. Are these the black hole, white hole, or exotic matter figures? There are 3 houses looking like they have just come out of a cylinder shape, the doors on the houses look more like an open mouth expressing horror or dread.
The face of the man at the top has his mouth open and teeth showing like he is dead--he looks a little like the open mouthed mummy in the cave--same high cheek bones. The woman next to him could be the Eve from the cave. Are these the progenitors of the island's original inhabitants?
The boat with a white sail has upside down stick people falling out of it and a spiral descending from them down into a net-like structure which could be symbolic of having been "caught" on the island or in "time." A really interesting figure on the outer edge of the net looks like an eye inside a circle with rays/spikes coming out of it. This could be the crab nebula figure similar to the design the Sinagua Indians drew of the Crab Supernova on rocks in Arizona. (See Crab Nebula thread)
The blue sharkish wave curls or fins appears to possibly be a wormhole with its torturous twists and turns and maybe even be leading off into other dimensions shown as blue fin-like protrusions.
The arrow shape which is supposed to be a tree could actually be a dial, an arrow, a space craft, a tunnel, or a symbol of a cylinder headed back in time.
The stick people on our far upper left are all up against a mesa-like solid looking structure. Are they coming out or being drawn in or just suspended there? IDK See
fishbiscuit's site and take a look yourself.:):)

Ben looks sooo scared when he opens his eyes in Tunisia. It is almost like he has never done or experienced that before. It must be different then when Tom or anyone else has left the Island and come back.

Beach, wow! I have to go and look at this now! Your critique is awsome! I just have one thing to add, without even seeing it yet. You mentioned something about a circle with a dot in it perhaps being earth. Think about the logo for Oceanic! The middle of the logo is a circle with a dot and dots around the perimeter, I think.

Looking at this picture one thing comes to mind instantly. The black figure almost seems to be like a negative. It reminds me of the whispers that talk in reverse. They are on "the other side" and I bet that's where the show is going this coming season. It's funny how the moon is over the right shoulder of the dark figure and the sun is to the left of the light figure. Any of you out there that are old enough to know what a photograph negative is will get it. Also, the stick figure in the wave is very reminiscent of the one from Daniel's journal. Exactly what do you think that arrow is pointing to?
I thought that Kelvin and Radzinski painted this. Guess not?
*About the "other side." I think that since TPTB said there will be no flashbacks or flashforwards this season that they are going to write the shows (at least several of them) with the perspective being from the other side where the whispers are. I would guess that it's another dimension. That will enable them to bring back the dead, like Rousseau, without a flashback. What do you all think?

There's also an explanation for this on this site.
Here's what it says:
The symbol is also reminiscent of the boy scout tracking sign for "Gone Home", which in certain unfortunate circumstances can also be used as shorthand for "Dead Boy Scout".
And this image of Hollow Earth,

made by the astronomer Edmund Halley (of Comet fame), brings us back to circles...inside circles

...an image we've seen again and again on Lost, most recently this season on one of it's magically materializing hatches, The Orchid.

What I love most is this theory:
THE ISLAND IS A PORTAL TO AN ALTERNATE REALITY
You know what else is magnetic? The North Pole, that’s what! The Tibetans believed that the North Pole was a portal to a mythical kingdom within Inner Earth, ruled from the holy city of Shambahla.
Shambahla is also the seat of power in Willis George Emerson's 1908 science fiction story, "The Smoky God", where a Scandinavian sailor enters the portal of the North Pole to find a land ruled by "The Smoky God, the great pillar or mother cloud of electricity".
Legends of Hollow Earth describe a race of Other-ish immortals,
called "Old Ones", who steal children, and have built elaborate systems of temples, palaces and underground tunnels.
Sound familiar? You thought they were making this stuff up, but really they're just cribbing off dime novels from the days of Teddy Roosevelt and the rantings of crackpot dystopians.

I liked what I read, and the circles within circles idea which is also the Henokiens site logo. Thanks MonkeyHands, NotSoLost, and Lost Freak for some very interesting thoughts, pictures and quotes. Enjoyed reading fishbiscuit's thread. She's done some mighty good thinking about Lost, just like the rest of us here on the forum. And still we walk on with one foot in the sand dragging us down. If it is similar to a dime novel, they sure have embellished it into a great show and burrowed its mysteries into our minds like a drill! Vapor on, Smokie, Bamboozle us all Ben, and Jolt yourself out of your Jerkmode, Jack!!Season five's a comin' and all h--- is going to break loose!!!
YYYYYYYYYYYYeeeeeeeeeeeeeHHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Git along little doggies!!

If I remember that scene, Ben wasn't scared he was gasping for breath. I'm not 100% sure though. As far as Tom is concerned, he was not important enough to ever turn the wheel. I am sure he always took the more conventional method of traveling...the sub, etc.

I just noticed something else in that picture from the Swan's wall. The two figures, black one and white one. Okay, I've already said that the black one looks like a film negative but I just looked at the eyes...
It has one black eye and one white eye like Locke did in Claire's dream sequence! I think that's really odd....and I love it!

I think this sounds more than plausible because they said that. It would explain how they will be able to go back w/o it being a flashback venue. Amen!

Beach, two quick things. In a picture of Jack from the new season, I think it's from the Season 5 Promo that Monkey-Hands posted a link for, Jack also has one black eye and one white eye like Locke did in Claire's dream. It's like those stick figures. One white "positive" and one black "negative." So strange. I can't wait to hear the explanation for this! LOL!!!
As far as no flashbacks...well, frankly I am completely confused now. I have read recently that they are using flashback and flashforward techniques again. Too bad if they do. It would have been interesting to watch from a completely different perspective, like from the whispers. I hate to wait anymore!!! LOL!!!!

I thought they said they weren't going to do that anymore. What gives? Is it like someone here said that it will be in another dimension? But in this or that dimension-- isn't it just fudging on the issue? Oh well, like everyone, I will just be glad to see the new season. I intend to wear my aluminum foil hat with the pointy spear on the top. You can never be too careful when you get too close to the island!!LOL

What about the sun with 108 inside of it, and the 108 in darkness next to it. This is also an example of the other side theory. On day 108 eight people left the island (sun), forcing the others left to be cast into darkness.

I though that meant something to do with the Computer. The Numbers was pushed in every 108 minutes.
