If you haven't seen season three, you also probably shouldn't read this.
I just picked up Season 4 today on DVD and I noticed a sloppy mistake. Imagine you have never seen season 4 of Lost at all, but you are extreamly invested in the story and spoilers are the last thing you want to come across. OK...so you are super excited to see season 4 so you buy the DVD, open it up, scope out the pictures inside and....wait a minute...is that Michael standing there? WTF? Michael must come back this season!
I had seen season 4 and knew this, but for those new fans who are following the show by DVD, this might and very well be a huge spoil for them. Not to mention in the season 3 DVD where they give a brief synopsis of each episode on the booklet inside, they totally blew the flash foward twist on the last episode. I think if the Lost crew really wants some new fans, they got to think before they print these so called spoilers on their DVDs. A little sloppy on their part.

Maybe they didn't mean for Michael to be there like that. Maybe he is just there to show some of the Characters from Lost.

I think the producers don't think about that. I guess they think that if you buy the DVD you already saw the whole season.

All I'm saying is that it ruins the element of surprise. And trust me, many many fans of Lost start out by watching the DVDs. Not everyone was in it from the beginning. And if you think that they release the DVDs without the producers/creators taking a look at the final product, you're wrong. It's their brainchild and they wouldn't let anything with the Lost brand out to the public without looking at it.
Most the people I know, know that I'm a huge fan of the show. I have tried to spread the good word of Lost to as many people I can by lending them the DVDs. When they got to season 3 I would say "If you don't want the ending of the season ruined, don't read the episode synopsis". Easy enough. Most of them just told me to take the booklet out. Now they can't even open up the season 4 DVD without the mid-season surprise being spoiled. I just think they could have used a little more discretion.

True but also like I said, they might have just put him there because a lot of people like Michael!

A lot of people also like Desmond, Sayid, Locke, Hurley, Sawyer, etc. as well. But I'm pretty sure that isn't why they are pictured inside the DVD. Every picture is a scene from season 4. Just like the past DVD seasons, they feature pictures from that season. If you haven't seen season 4, the last you saw of Michael, he was sailing away with his son and his afro. Either of which are pictured with him. Trust me, this will be a spoiler to many.

All DVD's are like that, say for instance a Wrestle mania DVD from WWE, it shows the people who are in it and Returning. It's nothing to get upset about man, DVD's are mostly bought by people who have seen the Show before.

Plus, I think 80% of fans knew Michael was Ben's spy on the freighter - it was almost a given. Not to mention many of the credits prior to that episode listed Harold Perrineau Jr. (the actor who plays Michael) in them. If I'm not mistaken, that started 4 or 5 episodes prior to the one he came back in.

I'm not upset at all. I've seen all the episodes and I know what happens. You all bring up valid points about DVDs being for folks who have seen the show. I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree here. I hate spoilers. I never read them. If I see the word "spoiler" I don't even bother. I don't even like seeing the cast list for the episodes. The element of surprise is one and maybe the biggest reason I keep watching. This show thrives off that. You have to realize though that not everyone who buys, watches, or looks at the DVDs are people who have seen the show. A lot the people I know who didn't start watching from the beginning have become fans of the show by watching the DVDs. It just sucks for the new fans who drop $40-$50 on the DVD only to have these things ruined for them. It's not like they read it on Lost.com or anything. They're on the DVDs.

That is true. Harold Perrineau got the entire season's worth of episode credits, so even if you did watch season 4 while it aired you would have known Michael to be in it from episode 1. This whole accredidation thing was brought up to Damon and Carlton in a Podcast and they said that it was for legal reasons
