Im watching Season 4 again and just finished "The Shape of Things to Come." When Ben appeared in the desert he had just been transported from turning the frozen donkey wheel. It was October 2005. He turned the wheel around Christmas 2004...so he time travel 10 months into the future. At first I tried to use this as a basis to calculate time between the island and mainland. Then realized Ben travel to a very convenient place and time to recruit Sayid as his assasin. Do you think the time travel is random or controlled by the island/Jacob to put someone in a particular place and time...r do you think the time is more rigidly set?

Well there are multiple places all over the world with the same properties as the island, and i think that they are all connected by some "bridge". As far as where Ben ended up I believe was just like a roulette wheel with those locations. The island would not place him where it wanted to place him because he was rejected by it.

I don't think Ben knew where he would have ended up, because if he did he wouldn't have put on a Woolly Coat!

I think he put on the wooly coat because the location of the wheel was cold and frozen...

Speaking of that....check this out...i don't know if this was already thought of but.....

We have a HUGE wheel that is difficult for a single man to turn in a COLD ICE CAVERN, and we have animals on the island that belong in an icy environment.

Any1 else make the connection?

How should the bears have gotten down there?
Well, otherwise we know that one of the Dharma bears has been found in the desert.
The wheel has probably been turned before and maybe this bear was like "well, someone has to do it". So like no human must've turned the wheel.

Would you all please quit saying the darn polar bears turned that stupid wheel? If one person, just one, could give me a logical answer to exactly how the bear got down into these caves I'll eat my hat! I promise.

I doubt the Polar Bears would turn the Wheel for the Dharma

How did our DHARMA bear get to tunesia? Im thinking that the ancients used the bears to move the island in the past (meaning i don't think they were brought there by DHARMA) but DHARMA used one of the bears as an experiment.

Why else would there be a polar animal on the island?

I just started a new thread under Theories called The Answer to the Island Time, or something like that. Please check it out. It is long but it explains everything about the island time and how it moves. It is not a scientific type of read but more of an easy explanation for everyone to get.
As for the polar bear in Tunisia, well the DI was experimenting with that pod in the Orchid and spacetime travel. It may have been moved there from that.

And like I said there seems to be a lot of Egyptian stuff popping up. Maybe the Polar Bears have something to do with that.

I beleave your refearing to what we saw at the end of season two "Live together,Die alone" When we saw our two Portuguise men in an Artic envirment. and then picking up the Electromagnetic activity on the screen. So maybe the island was in an Artic envirment "Hince the Artic cave" priar to Ben turning the wheel and due to the proposal that the island can take it's present time and space and combin it with differnt points in time. Then perhaps it was in a tropical envirment before it came to the Artic place and now the island has moved again. But it would seem it didn't change locations just point in time according to what Iv seen in the previews.

Those two guys stationed in Iceland or wherever worked for Penny Widmore. Their job was to wait and try to find a signal to determine where the island might be. She was searching for Desmond. When the Purple Sky Event occured from the Swan it kinda sucked a hole in the electromagnetic covering around the island for a very brief second. That was when they got that blip on the radar screen. I don't think it has anything to do with the island ever having been in the arctic.

NotSo, I still think the polar bear moved the wheel, and for many legitimate reasons.

For one, if Dharma was experimenting with the bears, it was 20 years or so prior to Ben turning the wheel. In 20 years, it would be easy for an open cavern to freeze shut or for someone else to come in and seal it. You have to consider that Ben KNEW about the donkey wheel, so it's not very likely that the only way to get to it is to blow up that pod and crawl through that tight space.

Two, Dharma had cages for the polar bears - where Sawyer and Kate were held for most of season 3. One thing they were doing in those cages was trying to get the bears to push the lever to get food. Training bears to push a lever translates pretty well into pushing a wheel lever.

Three, we must also consider that we've already seen Ben use a secret, well-hidden room before. Hell, even the Orchid station was hidden by the garden area. So it's very likely that this icy cavern also has hidden paths that lead to it.

Four. Ben turns the wheel and ends up in Tunisia. A few episodes prior, we learn of a polar bear skeleton (forensics will likely prove the skeleton is around 20-years old) in the same area.

Far too many "coincidences" for me to ignore.

Ort, is this going to be like our discussions about Claire? I do not think that the polar bears turned any wheel. If you listen to the commentary on season 4 dvd's TPTB say that the ice cave had been hidden from everyone. I am not too sure the DI even knew about it. They only knew of the powers of the negatively charged exotic matter somewhere deep in the bowels of the island. They only knew it was near where the strange little pod thing was in the Orchid. I don't know if they knew exactly where the ice cave was or that it even existed.

Well I don't have season 4 dvds...so :p

It's also odd that TPTB say that the ice cave had been hidden from everyone and yet Ben knew exactly where it was, how to use it, etc. Certainly, Ben seems to know more than everyone - but that just doesn't add up to me. Since he knew exactly how to get there, I thought for sure that he had some kind of secret Dharma journal that logged all their findings.

Ben came on the island as a child but was recruited as "The One" by the Others. They shared their secrets with him. I think it is their secret! It all goes back to my thoughts that this whole thing is about perpetuating a dying alien race or future human race.
Do you remember when Ben was crawling through the tunnel to get to the ice cave ladder? I never had noticed it before but when I was rewatching it there were two wooden markers of some kind along the path. They were wooden planks that were rounded at the tops. They were a few feet apart from each other and reminded me very much of grave markers. I wonder if this will have to do with Adam and Eve?
