When Dan lands on the island he says to Jack and Kate 'I'm here to rescue you'. So, is he lying? Or is he really there to rescue them? I suppose we don't know if he has the same objective as Miles or Naomi.

Another thing I just noticed is this, and I think this is a HUGE clue. When Jack says to Dan 'who are you'? Dan sort of pauses and looks about before he answers - in my opinion - he is actually thinking to himself something along the lines of.... 'well, I was Dan Faraday before I landed here, and maybe I still am but well who really knows now?

Another thing...when Dan says 'Are you Jack'? Is that because he recognizes him? From a picture? From a previous encounter? OR just a lucky guess?

from episode 2 it seems that daniel is not all there in the head. Is he therefore a physicist or just thinks he is?

Daniel knows Jack's name because Jack TOLD him his name.. they talked on the phone, remember?

I think that Daniel is lying about the rescuing, but I think the pauses and his akwardness are just because he's a nerdy scientist (or headcase as Naomi called him) guy, and not some warrior rescue guy. I don't think he's really prepared for the island.

ah he then later admits when confronted by Jack that rescuing them was not the primary objective. Case solved.

I don't think Daniel can lie. Or when he does, you see right through it. When he says "I'm here to rescue you.", it's like OH, PLEASE.

Kate, I thought she said Sam too, before we knew him as Dan, but have been told by many that she actually said Dan. There is also a character Sam Thomas from the find815 web site (the same guy who hacks into the Oceanic ad), which is why i initially thought she said Sam, but if you listen close I'm pretty sure she says Dan

yeah. I did find 815, and that's why the "sam" thing caught my attention. the first thing that came to my mind was "oh no, they changed the actor that's playing sam!"

well i think when he claimed he was there to rescue them he sounded like he was rciting from a script - same when he said his name but this time he seemed to have a littl trouble remembering his lines.

(i know he literally WAS reciting a script but you know what i mean before any smart ass comments come this way...!)

Haha no I know exactly what you mean, Dan acts very awkward and seems like he's about to freak out any second haha. He probably does have some kind of script he's supposed to say, I mean we know they had "code words" if something goes wrong so they've probably been told what to say also.

i think they are all pretty clueless as to the real story of why they are there or about the island. think miles hides his lack of knowledge by being defensive, dan really doesnt hide it at all and charlotte just blags her way out of it - but i think she has a bit more knowledge and maybe ulterior motives as to gaining everyones trust and trying to be everyone friend.
