View Full Version : 2 Helicopters?

I was wondering if the freighter brought 2 helicopters. When Naomi parachuted onto the island, Des, Jin, Hurley, and Charlie all heard a helicopter goin down, then they saw a splash in the water. I assume this was the copter Naomi was in. Then there is the copter that we see thoughout this season that the O6 are flying in when the island disappears. In the flashback episode of Michael where it explains how he got on the freighter, I never saw 2 copters, I always saw just one. So I was wondering how there is still a copter after we saw one crash in the water? Thoughts?

I wondered about this too. But there were two landing pads on the freighter.

Yes, Naomi's crashed in the water. I believe Chopper Frank brought in his own with creepy Charlotte who fell into the tree, creepy Miles and Farraday who landed together. And Frank...didn't he have to climb up a hill where he saw the cow?

Just because Naomi said the copter crashed doesn't mean it's true. She parachuted out and all the losties saw was a red beacon and they heard something hit the water. I am not buying two copters just yet.

If there were two helicopters, (I think there were), I believe Naomi flew the other one. During "Meet Kevin Johnson" Michael over hears this conversation between Naomi and Frank:

Naomi says, "Sorry, Frank, I'm going first and that's all there is to it."

"No offence," Frank says, "but I was flying these things when you were still in grade school. If anyone's got to go first, it should be me."

"Yeah, I need you here to transport the science team, Frank."

"What the hell are you going to be doing?"

"That's need to know. You don't." She walks away.

This doesn't necessairly prove Naomi flew the helicopter, but someone did. If Naomi didn't fly it, another pilot was most likely on the freighter to pilot it and possibly went down with the helicopter.

Thanks BroDes. That makes sense to me now. I would imagine that Naomi did fly it herself. That way she could parachute out and crash it into the water. Okay, that's what I was waiting for...something solid to prove it! LOL!

Yeah I remember that conversation and figured either Naomi or someone we dont know flew it. But after that convo, Frank talks to Michael and tells him his theory about the Oceanic flight and in the background I can only see one helicopter. Granted, it could be the camera angles or the second copter was in the air at that time. I just never actually saw 2 helicopters in Michael's flashback.

Actually...does it matter? I mean, the real issue is WHO are the good guys and who are the bad 'uns... and Chopper Frank is def a good guy.;)

This whole thread has got me thinking. I'm pretty sure from this conversation that Naomi was the other pilot; or else why would Frank say " since you were in grade school". If it was another pilot he would have said, "since Jim the Pilot was in grade school." So why in the hell would Naomi fly to the island all by herself? What if she had brought another group of people to the island before Frank did. Other people might have jumped to; but they didnt have the flashing lights. Maybe these are some of the new characters that are going to be in the next season.

I'm not sure how Naomi could have been the other pilot. In the episode where she reaches the island the chopper (or whatever it was) crashes pretty far out in the ocean, then Naomi falls onto the island beyond the beach. If she was the pilot and she ejected from the chopper, how could she have made it that far onto the island? Actually how is that possible at all?

Notsolost has a great theory (which I agree with) about the EM bubble around the island. And that when Faradays rocket peirced the bubble it was slowed down to be 31 minutes late. What if when Naomi jumped out of the helicopter she was above the bubble, and while coming down both her and the chopper peirced the bubble setting them at different times, and slightly different locations. When the chopper hit the water they turned around and saw Naomi falling. What if when they saw the chopper struggling, in actual time Naomi had already jumped but hadn't caught up to the island. So when they were watching the chopper trying not to go down, Naomi had already abandoned the chopper and was parachuting to the island.
If that makes any sense

Yes, but what does he know? where is he gonna fit into the rest of the show? Does he question why the secret must be kept?

He was there when the 06 got into the raft to leave Penny's boat. So I would assume that he realizes why they need to lie, and wasn't questioning it too much. I think that Frank will need to be brought back with the rest of them too.

well, just judging by his perplexity watching the news flash about the crash site, I don't think he knew too much at that time...but he's a good guy and will do whatever he can to aide the Losties now that he's in the middle of it all. Do you concur, Unbridled? :D

Yeah, I like Frank alot, and believe he's a good guy. He's obviously meant to go back to island, but I wonder if he'll be willing too. I could see him having stayed with Desmond and Penny. He could have become their personal pilot. And that way storyline wise it will be easy to get Frank cause he'll be with Desmond; when they go for him.

But yeah, if Jack tells him that he can help those left behind I'm sure that he'll willingly go to help them.

Okay, I went back and watched season 4 again. There is only one choper. Just one. There is one landing pad on the freighter. Just one. So, I am now taking the firm position that there was only one helocopter. I think it was a set up for the "crash" when Naomi parachuted out. As with Frank flying, the copter hit some rough air.

If there were 2 choppers it'd be because of the rabbit experiment - a time shift situation. Same chopper twice.

Agreed. I remember when the episode was on I had posted something about the helocopter being there before it was supposed to be. Just like the doctor washing up on shore before he died.

...yes yes yes...do you think the 'problems' on the island since the o6 left has anything to do with people/objects from different times are showing up on the island?? Maybe that's why we see Dharma folks again, the drug plane, the yellow suit guys - all in the season 5 previews...maybe our O6 have to dress as Dharma employees to fit in while they help restore order to the island??

I think our guys got thrown back 40 or 50 years to the good old DI days. Either they didn't know any better and assumed they were part of the DI or they did it as a cover. It's hard to tell who remembers what when they get thrown back in time. Des had vague memories. I wonder if they'll have to be convinced by our 06 when they return, somehow, of who, where and when they are from! That would be interesting. As for what we are seeming to see as a big battle brewing, I wonder if it is the original hostile/DI wars we have heard about all along? It might just be that. Anyway, TPTB said we will not know where we are or when we are!

I take back what I said about only one landing pad on the freighter. I rewatched The Constant last night...twice. There are two landing pads on the freighter but I am absolutely positive that there is only one helocopter. When you first get to see the vessel and again as it is sailing in the ocean there is only one helocopter onboard.
I think that the conversation between Frank and Naomi was more about who was going to fly the first mission. The helocopter never went down. That was a lie or it has to do with the time difference on the island. I lean towards the time difference. It's like when the doctor washed up on shore before he was killed on the freighter. The helocopter may have "crashed" before it ever took off and therefore Frank was able to pilot the choper because it never left the ship.
