When Michael gets sent back to the beach to lure the selected losties back to the others, was it ever made clear why those particular castaways were wanted? Jack to do Ben's surgery and the rest so Ben could use them to manipulate Jack:confused:?

i would say you pinned the tail on the donkey , i am currently in the middle of season three and just saw these episodes so they are fresh in my mind i took this the exact same way . for one reason like you said to manipulate jack , to get him to do the surgery sawyer to make sure kate would be invested in trying to get jack to do this surgery . they make kate think they will kill sawyer then tell her that if she talks jack into doing the surgery sawyer will live . and of course jack has that soft spot for kate and it worked . so as i said before i would assume you are correct .

I also found it interesting that is was Ms. Klugh that did all of the talking to Hurley. We know that she was the one who dealt with Walt, and we know that both Hurley and Walt are "special". I always thought that maybe Klugh sent for Hurley too so that she could have a chance to meet him and see if he was different. The Others may not have needed him then, but they found out that Hurley was special and would need him later.
