Remember the tree that was Ethan's drop site? The one where Juliette goes to pick up the medicine to give to Claire..
What is that symbol? It looks familiar, but I've looked up astrology, alchemy and rune symbols and I can't find it. I really feel like I've seen it before, but those three are the only ways I think I might have.
Does anyone know what it is?

Yeah, the tree was marked as a drop spot, but the symbol is familiar to me, but I can't figure out where I've seen it before. It might be connected to something else, or it might not be.. I'm not sure.. Anyway, I can't put up the picture, but this is a direct link:

demetriu posted about it being a greek symbol for some underground, possibly mythic secret society. and someone also pointed out that its the mark they brand juliet with.

The symbol looks like the markings of a basketball. We all know the Harlem Globetrotters ended up on Gilligan's Island. Maybe the Washington Generals ended up on our island.
Also, what is this underground clock and where can I find a picture?

The symbol on the tree is a sign for the Hong Kong MTR (subway) that has fallen over!

was going to post a bunch of links to runes, then realized that it really didn't look like a rune on the tree.
It still looks like the russian letter "zhe"

The Symbols site said that the sign is also a letter in the Cyrillic alphabet used by some Slavic people like Russians and Serbs. So, could Patchy have carved it into the tree?

the one on her back does look like the ior in Elder Futhark.
But the one on the tree looks like Russian.
It also looks a little like the symbol for pisces...

Looks like one of the symbols for the Greek goddess, Eris.
http://www.honecksculptures.com/catalog/images/026.jpg
Known as the 'Hand of Eris' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_of_Eris), the symbol used by the Discordian Society (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discordianism)
And is the like the symbol shown on the door knocker in one of the 'Mysteries of the Universe' videos.

interesting. Just for reference here is Juliet's mark (http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Juliet's_mark):

The proposed symbol for Eris is slightly different from the tree mark though:

I think it is important that all lines converge? I don't know... but Eris seems to make sense from what I'm reading. The last section about the symbol in mathematics that says the symbol is used to show a proof by contradiction seems relevant to lost, maybe?

Yeah, it's a little bit different.
Can also be with a cross going across, like with Juliette's mark:

I don't know why I quoted Dr. Cool in my last post in this thread by the way but speaking of which, where is Dr. Cool now? I bet he was cool.

I guess this is the reason I didn't pay much attention to that mark, because it's just something I use on everyday basis. It looks exactly like a Cyrillic letter "zh" (it's a very difficult letter for you to pronounce guys, because you don't have it in English).
It could be that they picked this mark randomly. After all, the actress who plays Rousseault is Croatian (which is almost the same, cause we speak the same language) and she knows Cyrillic alphabet because everyone in this region does.

Is it significant that the mark has eight points? Here are some other eight-pointed/spoked things:
