Question: Any major character deaths on Lost this season? — Sophie
Ausiello: None that I know of, but, after screening the first two eps, it certainly looks like a female cast-member isn’t long for this world. The fact that she was recently cast in a big Hollywood movie doesn’t bode well either. (Doc Jensen’s got more on Lost’s Jan. 21 premiere!)

I imdb'd the main female chracter's and this is what i came up with.

Sun- has a tv series "Two Sisters (2008)" in post-production. Not sure if it is a full or a mini series but she is high up on the list of cast members so she must be pretty important.

Kate- Has nothing in the foreseeable future.

Claire- Has two things in post production. "Rogue's Gallery (2009)" and "Public Enemies (2009)" which is why she will not be in this season.

Juliet- Hasn't done anything since Santa Clause 3 and has nothing in her future either.

Charlotte- Is filiming "Men Who Stare At Goats (2009)"

Penny- Has a movie "The Factory (2009)" in post-production.

I hate to see any of them go. Let's break down what we know from previous seasons and from the season 5 previews so far.

Kate- Is one of the oceanic 6 and my favorite character if you can't already tell. She is extremely important to the grand scheme of things and I can't see her going. Although, I have heard that she is not really a team player and doesn't get along with the cast and crew very well.

Sun- She as it would appear has joined forces with Charles Widmore even though we don't know how far in the future her flash-forward was. Ben could have already gotten to her and it will turn out to be a setup. Anyway she too is important to the grand scheme.

Claire- We know she won't returning this season, maybe in the finale. She has too many questions about her that need to be answered and I for one can't wait to see them explained.

Penny- I don't think Ben will get to her so quickly and see her staying around for a while.

Charlotte- She is a mysterious character and I want to see her background a little more in depth.

Juliet- I see her as Sawyer's new love interest even though he will always have a place for freckles.

Let's just hope that it is not one of these characters and they decide like I have felt for a long time that Rose's character has run it's course.

My money is on Claire. We know shes not going to be in this season... but it doesnt make sense that they wouldnt clear her situation up a little before she leaves. Besides I have already accepted that she is dead... so it would be easier on me.

I dont see them killing off Charlotte because she is so mysterious. The writers can really build on her and give us a lot of new information. Plus we have the obvious Charladay relationship that we havent seen enough of yet.

Penny would just be sad. And also not likely, I dont see the writers wanting to end the Ben- Penny story arc so soon. Plus I'm not sure if she is considered a "main character". She is not in any of the promo pics.

Well, considering Penny has a baby I don't think TPTB are gonna knock her off too soon.
Claire is already dead or undead so she'd only be back in a flashback scene.
Kate is a main character and not going anywhere.
Sawyer is a main character but could be knocked off...not that we'd like it. I could see him embroiled in a big battle with the old DI or island intruders and becoming the dead hero after he saves everyone else. It would fix his kharma now, wouldn't it?
Jack has not been discussed but I don't think he's going anywhere either.
Charlotte is a new character but her island connection could be easily explained in one or two shows so she is a possibility. She could come upon the information and be knocked off right after. Or she could be killed off and than it be discovered who she really is. Poor Charlotte. Just getting started and gone too soon. A sympathy character. It could work, not that we'd like it.
Juliet could go anytime as far as I'm concerned! Not that I don't like the actress, I just don't like her character. By the way, she was very cute in SC 3!
Sun is not going anywhere. They are just beginning to develop her character. Or should I say the other side of her character. She has a dark side that TPTB have shown us since early on when she was a little girl. I don't think Ben got to her. I think she wants to kill Ben and that is why she is teaming up with Widmore. She blames Ben as one of the two responsible for Jin's death. Remember, he knew by killing Keamy he would kill everyone on the freighter and his response was a chilling "So????"
I will wait and see. We could speculate all day but I would rather just follow the story. All things said, that's just my opinion!

As for Charlotte being knocked off early, it doesn't make sense, as they'd already filmed more than half the season when they released the promo pictures with her on them. Just because someone is having some "nosebleed trouble", and are signed up for a flim production doesn't mean they'll be knocked off. Seeing as filming hasn't started yet for Rebecca Mader's movie, it would seem the schedules don't coincide.

due to a cast sheet "acquired" for episode 5.04, we know that Charlotte makes it past episode 4... and she's not the only one with a nosebleed...

I'd say Claire is dead or has the most chance of dieing, if she'd actually been in this season. Other than her it's hard to say. Of course we know Ben is after Penny, and that would create a conflict with both Desmond and Charles. And then we have Sun going after whoever it is she truly blames for Jin's death. It's impossible to know for sure.

It will be funny if after all of this discussion, we see that Charlotte was just punched in the nose. :)
