I do think he is physically dead and I think his death and name change was meant to send a "dharmic" message concerning "The Greatest Happiness Principle" (a philosophy of utilitarianism which the historical Jeremy Bentham promoted which was based on actions taken for the greatest good for the greatest number). I also believe he committed suicide with the base knowledge both of his purpose (or dharma) and the belief that he could return again through some form of reincarnation (either biological (literal rebirth) or mechanical (time machine)).

I think he is dead, but I think once his body is brought back to the island, he'll be able to come back in at least some way. Otherwise, what would be the point of lugging him around?

I think it is a toss up.......this show is just driving me nuts....! I too think as someone posted that possibly his body can be resurected if he gets back to the island (like Shepherd maybe).....I don't know........the anticipation is killing me.........

I have been saying this about Christian for a while now (but it's been a while so I am going to throw it back out there) but I think perhaps it could pertain to this Locke situation. Think back, way back, to Paulo and Nikki and how they were paralyzed by the spiders and then burried alive. I think that Christian is not dead, nor Locke, and that the spiders were used to make them appear dead for a time. Jack never touched his father when he saw him in the morgue. And Post 9-11 what airline is going to let you bring a freaking coffin and dead body on board without proper documentation? This would also explain why Christians body is missing from the coffin when Jack finds it on the island and explains how Christian is in Jacob's cabin. I think that is the entire reason that Nikki and Paulo were brought into the story line...to bring into play a great 'weapon' and mode of 'tricking' everyone that certain people are dead.

hey sunshine i dont know how long you have had this theory , but i made a new topic way back when on that exact topic so no you are not the only one with this theory i am totally on board with this theory they wouldn't just let those episodes mean nothing. if you are interested go check it out there is alot of opinions there .

I agree that there has to be some reason behind the Paulo/Nikki/Spider story line other than just killing time. Who knows. It's fun to guess.

The people there examined every last detail to try to prove that Dumbledore only faked his death. Of course, in the end, Dumbledore DID die, and nothing would bring him back, but once you learn why, it's ok that he's dead. Maybe it's the same for Locke.
