remember?ok so if you remember the lack of the same brut force that it usually displays i mean cmon it was wack, but remember the fact that it was pulling Locke down the hole and Kate threw the dynamite into the hole and when it blew the smoke escaped through an exit not too far away but showed the size of that hole , why haven't they ever explored that hole or have any other such holes ever appeared i would think also they should kill the bear since they know where it lives

i am intrigued by the fact that the smoke has an audio visual aspect to it, this in line with the fact that it sounds mechanical in nature makes me think that danielle was right in a way when said there was no such thing as monsters and referred to it as their security system. maybe she's just crazy...

if the smoke monster is highly sophisticated security system, it doest go well will out of date technology on the island , i.e those tv monitors look like boob tubes from the seventies.

i understand where you are coming from though but i dont think dharma and smokie are related - hence why it is highly sophisticated and dharma's get up is a little dated looking!

the mechanical noise is also driving me mad aswell and i dont understand why it grabbed hold of locke as the first time he saw it, i am sure it was as a white light and obviously it didnt do any harm to him at all.

yes, there is a theory that the black smoke can manifest itself into dead people.

i heard someone else mention cameras related to this and this may explain the white light.

Dharma obviously had some high tech stuff. That fence around the barracks is nuts.

Just because you are doing really advanced mad scientist research doesn't mean you will use plasma TVs in the 1970s.

The secretary for the people doing research on cloaking devices, teleporting particles,etc use the same technology as we do.

Whenever the smoke monster appears, there is a distinct mechanical sound like scraping or grinding metal but then there is no distinct shape to it. It is like the dharma experiments- some were scientific based- electromagnetics, meterology, and zoology and others were spiritual/non scientific based- parapsyology. I think the monster is a mixture of both psychical and spiritual elements. The mechanical part could be nanobytes.

yeah king....we SLO MO'ed that sucker and saw that from the get go and it seems like it was either showing eko things about his life and the man he was throughout it...good and bad....OR.....could it be that it was pulling information from his head to learn more about him.....i also kind of agree with the theory that Jacob and smoky are one or linked....i do think that its possible....still don't think that smoky has anything to do with dharma...
