I have always thought this was weird-
The freighter was so far off that no one saw it then all of a sudden it could be seen from the shore, when Juliet was sitting there and Sawyer comes swimming up.
They couldn't see the ship from the helicopter, Sawyer jumps off, could swim to shore and see the freighter but the copter people couldn't.

No, they only saw the smoke when the freighter exploded, not the freighter itself.

The freighter was 80 miles off shore before the engines were fixed. When Michael got them running the freighter got to 5 miles off shore. That was the difference of seeing it from the island or not seeing it.

Actually I was just watching that on TV and you could see the ship fro mthe Island. The one thing that confuses me is how they are able to communicate off the island in real time. The rocket there was a delay but when they talk on the cell phones its realt time and also when Keamy died , his heart stopped and if it wasnt for the freezing of the battery the boat would have blown up the same time his heart stoped. i dont knoe how this is possible

Actually, nobody really knows how long the time between Keamy dying and the freighter blowing was.

That may be true but explain the ability to communcate without delay from the island to off the island. Would not the signal also be delayed. Nothing indicates that they are waiting for a response. The detonator is also using a radio frequency so why would we assume there could be a delay in that but none when they are talking to the people on the boat?

Honestly they were so close they should have just jumped!

There was a scene when the Dr. from the freighter washed up on the beach. Jack had Daniel call the freighter to see what had happened, Daniel was told that the Dr. was fine. So even though you can commuincate with the freighter it is not in the same time. We later see the Dr. on the freighter but then is killed and thrown overboard.

The radio waves aren't affected because they are electromagnetic, and can pass through the EM feild around the island. (did I get that right Notsolost? :) )

When they talked to the boat and they said that the doctor was right, that conversation was in real time. The doctor hadn't been killed on the boat, but the way his body came into the island brought him two days early.

Now that makes sense, thanks! :)

Because radio waves are electromagnetic in nature so the EM of the island didn't disturb them. Just like when the freighter docs body washed up on shore before he was killed but the radio transmission was in real time. Light waves are different than radio waves.
