The last words after Ben asked "what happens if I cant get everyone to go back" were "Then may god help us all"
Wow..... Strong words used at the end of that episode!!!! does this mean everyone off the island as well as on the island are doomed if the O6 do not go back??? This season is going to be great!!!!

I'm more interested in the fact that "May God help us all" was in the opening scene as well when Candle was warning the construction crew to stop drilling. If there is a link between these lines, then I guess the implication of Mrs. Hawking's statement is that the special energy under the island will be let loose. But I wonder if this link was intentionally put there by the producers to throw us off. Maybe Hawking is telling Ben that if they don't succeed, something bad will happen only to the people in Ben's group (the island people) and not to anyone else. That could also include something bad OR something good happening to Widmore.

Lines like that illustrate how anything can be made to mean anything! But to me it presupposes a belief in a God, God having a will, God providing help and that humans may, when all human effort fails, throw themselves on the mercy of God to provide something they cannot. Sort of like no atheist in a fox hole, I guess. These are scientists acting like they are in a proverbial fox-hole making these statements. I think its humanity in the balance that is swinging with that pendulum!!
