Yep - looks like it can find the Island - wonder why they have 70 hours and for what?

I bet that has something to do with the island currently traveling through time. I wonder if she is daniels mother???

i think it could be charlotte (?)

if charlotte was daniels mom that would be kinda wierd for them. also how would daniel be able to find her since she is still on the island

I think they're talking about Creepy Ring Lady. And I think she is going to end up being Penny's mother! She is too connected to Des and the Monastary.

I think the 70 hours referred to the time they had to reach the Island before their opportunity was lost forever.

I am pretty sure the woman is Faraday's mother, and that Desmond will track her down, only to find all the others trying to get back to the Island.

But there is something very strange about that whole scene. It seemed as though Ben felt very infurior to Mrs. Hawking like she has much more power over him. It seems like she has some influence with the island's actions. I dont know she seems very important and im sure she will be

Ben seemed like a little boy around her..Could she, Mrs. Hawking, be his grandmother? Wierd thought, huh!

She kinda reminds me of that other woman, i cant remember her name, but the woman who was on the small island who was going to convict juliet of murder. Mayb they are sister but mrs. hawking has more power. idk just throwing it out

Mrs. Hawking (after Stephen Hawking) looks very much like a druid priestess with the robes and candles. But she is a very contemporary one who knows advanced physics equations and can calculate in space time where the island is and where it will be in 70 hours. Her swinging pendulum may have a window that ends in 70 hours and with that you lose the location of the island if you want to go back. This is conjecture on my part but it's a possibility. I loved that part of the show and Ben looking so much like a sorcerer's apprentice.

It was reported that she is related to one of the charectors.

Based on this episode, I think it's greater than 90% that she's related to [and probably the mother of] Daniel. Especially since Daniel told Desmond in the past to try to contact his mother, who's name was....fade to flash of light.

That pendulum they showed reminded me greatly of a Foucault pendulum. A quick description:

A Foucault pendulum is just a regular pendulum but it is allowed to swing back and forth for a REALLY long time. It just barely doesn't swing in a straight line because of the Coriolis force provided by the Earth's rotation. This deviation from a straight line swing is increased by how far you are from the Equator. At the North and South Poles you get the fastest deviation from a straight swing.

However, a Foucault pendulum doesn't turn around very quickly - I'm pretty sure that even at the Poles it only turns 90 degrees in an entire day (I'm drawing back to early 2000's when I got my Physics degree so I could be a little off :p ), and the one in the room with Mrs. Hawking was turning quite quickly. So if it is a Foucault, that would mean she is in a room with a large magnetic force.

I think it is ironic that someone compare her to a Druid. I need to look back at my older posts but I seem to remember possibly on the post about her broach happening on some sort of druid link to the symbol as well celtic lore and catholic history leading to a photo of a church somewhere that was laid out similar to the dharma logos.

We know that she had some sort of close connection to the priest at the monestary Desmond was at. As well as the priest playing a part in causing Desmond to leave resulting in his meeting Penny) and Mrs. Hawking playing a part in Desmond breaking it off with Penny. Leading him to end up on the island (Widmore's boat race)

We know that Daniel has all sort of these weird memories of sort. Didn't his book have Desmond listed as his constant prior to the meeting? But he didn't know why or how? Was this information shared with him or drilled in him by his mother, possibly Mrs. Hawkings who we know from prior episode has some knowledge of future events. (Desmond being on the island)

I need to rewatch some episodes and think on this awhile.

About the Island finder in the basement...it struck me that it bore an awful familiarity to a logo on the lower left of the DISC attached to the Voyager I spacecraft. See link to pic.... I think its call the Voyager Interstellar Record.

The first thing I thought when Daniel said go find my mother was "Mrs Hawking!" Of course I thought it would be Desmond going to see her at the end and not Ben.

I think the whole 70 hours thing is much more severe then just having to recalulate where the island is.

The producers mentioned that Ben did fear one person, I'm wondering if it is Mrs. Hawkings. Seeing how he was around her, just a thought. Wonder what happens if they are not back in 70 hours I agree it has a lot more to do than where the Island it at the time.

***So, this swinging pendulum is an "old school GPS" type of device. No doubt it still takes an incredible amount of skill and precise calculation to operate.

***The family connections are certainly expanding. I have to speculate Ben and daniel being related somehow....cousins perhaps.

***Mrs. Hawking does have a "druid" look, but not in the traditional sense (IMO). It's both futuristic and archaic at the same time. Kinda like Star Wars is long in the past, but way more advanced than the present.

I think this huge swinging GPS shows just how GIANT the whole off-Island operation is.

Thanks for the link 54_twice. Fascinating ideas and explanations there! On that site it mentioned "the fifteen converging lines showing the Earth's location in time and space in relation to prominent pulsars." Imbedded in each line except for the one directed toward the Sun, there is Binary code (ones and zeros). Scientists used the binary system thinking it would be easier for Et's than our decimal system which is base on 10 fingers and toes. It also shows the hydrogen atom diagram. I wish I could understand more about the full significance of that!

The pendulum markings looked almost exactly like the diagram on the Voyager record. A record by the way that spins and rotates during an exact length of time. One rotation equals 3, 299.377 seconds or 53.8 minutes to play one side of the Voyager record. Could that be the 3.2 that Miles threatened Ben with and didn't he give him one week or seven days to get it? 7 is the beginning number in a long Binary constant that they multiplied to get the number of seconds, minutes and so on that the it took the record
to play.

What's interesting to me is that they started Season 5 with a record being played and of course it skipped. Maybe it is not only to signify the skipping around in time as someone said, but the connection to records and also to extraterrestrial life. A little known Frenchman who almost invented the phonograph, Charles Cros, was also very much interested in communicating with other forms of intelligent life in outer space. He experimented with ideas on how to do this. He developed a number sequence for that too.

See http://www.astrosociety.org
for more on the origins of ideas relating to communicating with other ET's, CETI & SETI.

Also, that fascinating and mysterious door with the pictographs, may just be a message TO EARTH sent by another life form from space-a time traveling one. (just outside the Crab Nebula?) Was the low flying spacecraft caught in a volcanic eruption which caused it to crash and bury itself deep within the black island lava?

If you read up on pictorial icons and symbols and what scientists discuss about how to communicate with extraterrestrials, that's a possible connection to the exotic matter, the hieroglyphs, and the buried wheel. Wild ideas! I think NotSo had first mentioned this some time back.

Well, don't get riled up---it's just fun to think of the possibilities. I know I sure like to get out of the box once in a while!!LOL
