During last season, in Cabin Fever, we saw Locke and Christian meet for the first time. Locke had intended to see Jacob, but for all we know Jacob could be off bowling or something, and Christian said that he could speak on his behalf. So he gave Locke instructions on how to supposedly save the island. The only way, according to him, was to move the island.
Of course, Hurley had brought up a point: how would that stop Keamy and his men from taking Ben away? And why do it AFTER they'd already gotten to the island? Ben had answered that it was a last resort, and that it was unpredictable and dangerous.
Back in season 3's The Man Behind the Curtian, Locke hear's Jacob say, "Help me." Some assumed that Jacob meant he was being trapped by Ben, thanks to that ring off ash around his cabin. After a few episodes, others thought he was talking about the frieghter that was making it's way to the island.
Of course, Locke was told to go and kill Naomi by Walt/the smoke monster, but was that the real danger?
The night that the four from the chopper came to the island, Hurley came upon the cabin, in which both Jacob and Christian could be seen. Whatever they were doing, I could only assume that the two were discussing what to do about the people on the frieghter(and may have welcomed Hurley in to help, as well as Locke, seeing as to how they were both near it at the time).
What I'm trying to say is, after seeing tonight's episodes, moving the island hasn't seemed to help anyone or anything at all, which is part of why I believe that it is exactly what Christian wanted, and that he did something to Jacob to overpower him. Maybe that is why Ben got his tumor, or why Locke had nearly lost his ability to walk twice(now thrice), rather than Ben being replaced or Locke not believing.
But what do you guys think?
