Ok the lady at the end of episode one.
She first appears in Season 3, in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" when Desmond goes back to his OLD life after turning the key.
She is the lady who refuses to sell him the engagment ring, and then tells him that this is NOT what he does. She also takes him outside where the guy in the suit wearing the red Converse shoes has scafolding fall on him. She says that you CAN NOT CHANGE THE PAST!
Ok here is my questions?
1. Does she have a name yet?
2. IS the others "Sheriff" the lady who holds Jullette's trial earlier in season 3 the same person?

Mrs. Hawking is one of the time lords. Go back through Season 4 threads and find out more info on her. Or ask Beach or NotSo. There's too much to explain it.

See the following page for more info on Mrs. Hawking:

Essentially, she told Desmond during his first time travel (after the hatch blew up) that he couldn't change the past or future, that he is destined to go to the island, and that the only worth while thing he'll do with his life is push the button. And if he fails to do any of that, everyone will die - which seems to be similar to the Oceanic 6 having left the island.

I know this is a long shot but when Daniel was talking to Desmond at the Hatch, he told him to go back to Oxford and "look for my mother". Another flash happened before he could get the words out "her name is..."
