Special Ones? Desmond, Christian, Jacob... [Archive]

If Desmond is special, a free agent, and is not constrained by the "rules" of island Space/Time/Consciousness, travel-wise, then it seems to follow that Christian and Jacob are special, too. The question is, what has made them SPECIAL?

its intriguing - faraday did say he was special but he also used the word unique so it is desmond alone who is special or is he special in a unique way, if that makes sense lol!!

That's a very good point, Bunny!! Like the movie line from the Godfather, just when I think someone has escaped the island, they pull him back in!! How many special people are there? "Unique" seems to carry a lot more weight, doesn't it? Do you think the writers are saying that everyone is special? But only some are unique?

Webster's states that unique means being the only one of its kind. That's pretty easy to define. Desmond is the only one of his kind? WOW!! But then you can ask what is "his kind?"

Special has several definitions and is harder to pin down when thinking about what it means as it relates to the characters on Lost. The first definition said it means " of a particular kind." I'm still not sure what that means.

I think Desmond is unique because he is a gate keeper or time keeper. He is the one, if you've noticed, that has kept all the events in place by bringing messages back in time and prevented any paradoxes from occuring.

No, they weren't the gatekeepers! That little short, geeky guy was! Gotta love Ghostbusters!! LOL!!!
