Pregnancy Issues on the Island

I was a bit confused by the premier this week with regards to the pregnancy issues on the island... when did they begin? The reason i ask is that at the opening we see a man and wife (assuming that's his wife...) in bed then the man goes and gets the baby. I thought there were problems with pregnancy - so when did it all start i wonder? Sorry if this has been discussed - i can't keep up with all the theories... :)

i dont think its actually been confirmed as to when it started or why it has started.

there are several theories flying around, including the island itself makes it impossible to concieve due to whatever energies it has, its related to 'the incident', its related to the purge, its some kind of punishment from some powers from where ever etc.....

its still one of the big mysteries we haven't had all that many answers about.

Something new I thought about last night...

What if the island was stoping the others from reproducing because he doesnt want them to become to strong of a force on the island. Kinda like population control. I only remember Others dieing in childbirth. I dont think we have seen anyone else, that wasnt an other die.

And Daniel had a baby (although we dont really know what group she is in yet)

I felt the same on this. I asume the women conceived and gave birth on the Island. The record was skippng, the wall was exposed, then what?

also did anyone happen to think this women favored Sun? is the baby Sun?

I always thought it might be the island taking on the aspects of Ben. Since Ben is "in control" and supposedly the only one before Locke who could talk to Jacob. Ben's mom died in child birth.........in the 3rd trimester. It is like the island took that aspect of Ben's life and projected it on to its inhabitants. Kinda the way smokey can read someone's past and project images (people, animals etc.) from people's past. Maybe it has something to do with Locke:

Ben and Locke have similar situations:

1. Both had mothers named Emily.
2. Both were born prematurely.
3. Both can talk to Jacob.
4. Both have been leaders of the others.
5. Both had cold fathers.
6. Both were responsible or had a place in killing their fathers.
7. Both were in a wheelchair (although Ben's stay wasn't long).

I think that they may have always been an issue for the island, and that's why Richard doesn't age. If the rest of the Others(or at least the older ones who weren't recruited) don't age, either, that means they'll never die of old age, and thus don't need to have children.

In Candle's case, maybe he and his wife concieved before coming to the island. Same with Rousseau and Claire. I think the only one who may have been both concieved and born on the island was Charlotte.

I agree with Lost815 I think the Island has the history if you will and the karma of the leader of the others ben 's mother died giving birth

Its also very possible that Dr Cheng and his wife were brought to the island along with other folks from the D.I........the island coudlnt of been hid for ever since ben and his father were BROUGHT to the island, saying that i think that its possible that D.I. had found away with the islands powers and the D.I.'s knowledge they made the hatches 2 ensure the islands safety!

I think she meant Danielle (Rousseau.) Could we ahve been led to think Faraday's mom in Oxford is Mrs. Hawking and it will be Rousseau? it's a shot in the dark! That would make faraday and Alex bro/sis.


I re-watched the S5 premier and noticed a pregnant women in the beginning scene. Right as Dr. Cheng finished his morning routine, as he's walking to record the Orchid Orientation video that is inturuppted a women with a pudge walks by. Upon closer examination, I think she's 4-6 months pregnant.
