Why must the O6 go back?

I know the obvious. Its to stabalize the island. And keep it from jumping through time. But why them?

Seems like Ben is the reason the island is like it is. Him turning that wheel, and releasing the energy from beneath the Orchid.

It has to be more than " the island said so".

I think Ben is just feeding them all this bla bla so HE can get back to the island.

Although I would agree with you that Ben is a total liar, I think the island needs the 6 & everyone else who was on the island as its "Constant". Kinda like Penny was Des' Constant so that he didn't self-destruct during his time jumping events. If they don't go back, the island will probably self-destruct & with its massive energy will probably destroy the entire world. Which is why Mrs. Hawking (I love how they named her after the greatest physicist of our time) said "God help us all" if they don't get back in time.
