Did anyone catch this? On the last episode when Jack was in the hospital and being confronted by the other doctor (who I think might be Bernards son) the doctor asked him if he drank today. Jack says something like, Get my father down here, right now and if I am drunker than he is, I will leave. So, this leads me to believe his father is still alive, so how can it be in the future when Jacks dad was dead when he boarded the Oceanic Flight?
Any ideas?

I think he is just drunk, and still can't let go that his dad was a drunk. and he thinks he is better than his dad, so his dad would be drunker(dont sound right).

I'm not so sure thats the explanation. Jack never did find his fathers body, in that casket. I bet he never even died, much less to even be on the island. He faked his death just like Sun was going to fake her death. Its a logical explanation, I think that was a hint, not a drunken error. This show is getting harder to follow by the minute, now we have to deal with flash forwards too, i won't be able to tell a forward from a back, unless Locke has an awesome white beard. O MAN, 45 mins. until SHOWTIME!!!!!!!!!!:D

Hurley mentioned the "six" from the plane when they flashed forward to him racing the car. The "theme" of the island seems to be people escaping their problems in the real world and Ben even asks Jack what he has to go back to and what's important in his life off the island. Then you hit the flashbacks where Hurley ends up back in the nut house [where he originally was hiding from his problems], Jack is acting like his father and probably becoming his father [which he references when he says to get his father down here and see who is more drunk] and Kate has to "get back" before he is wondering where she is [maybe under some kind of police watch from her blowing up houses days?] If Locke is in the casket, then he met his fate by being alone with no family or friends showing up to his funeral [like he didn't have any family or friends when he went to the island]. That's four...now we need two more. It seems like those who die on the island have resolved something...those who get off, may not. What do you think?
apparently you guys missed the point so i'll explain. jack was way high on oxycodone and was talking outta his ass. and then the guy looked at him with "pity" as jack said. cuz... his father is dead and the guy was pitying him because jack was obviously having a breakdown. if the black doctor guy would've had a chance to say something else it prolly would've been along the lines of "but jack... your dad is dead"
get it now?

I think we all GOT that, but things aren't always as they seem, right?! I know when I saw the empty coffin that supposedly had Jack's father in it, I thought, hmm...No body....Of course it could be out in the ocean somewhere, but c'mon that'd be to simple :)

Man i couldn't have said that any better. You took my explmation right out my mouth. Your exactly right!!. Jack was having a mental breack down. He was dilussional when he said bring my father down. Iv always thought this. And tonight's episode further explains it. At first when Jack came home. He was happey and willing to work as a Dr. again. But as time whent on. He started to feel guilt and depression of the events that accured on the island that we have not seen yet that Hurly and Jack are talking about. So how far down the road do you think bearde dJack comes in after Hurly's Flash Fwd? A yr maybe two? If his lugage tag said 2009 as everyone thinks and it's shown not to be a screw up in production. Then it's possable to be two yrs.

I had my doubts about it too, that maybe Jack's father was really alive. But I concluded that it was all misdirection, so you would be less likely to suspect that it was a flashforward. I think Jack was just having a breakdown and was high. However, two things still get me. The perscription: unless Jack forged it, how could he have held on to an old perscription from his father all these years and why would his dad have given him a perscription for oxycodine in the past anyway? And secondly, yeah, they never showed his body. I also tend to think that the flashes of Jacob look a little like Jack's dad, but I really don't think this is the case. Yeah, I think the dude is dead, jack forged the perscript and was high and delirious when he said his dad would be drunker than he is. Anyway... rambling...

Have any of you seen the mobisode with Jack's dad in it? It is a scene from the day of the crash and Dr. Sr. sends the dog to wake Jack up, says "He has work to do".
The question is, is he alive, or is he a ghost. He seemed very "normal".

Charlie just kicked the bucket, seemed like he had resolved his life. Same thing for Mr. Echo. (Memory fails me... who else is dead?) And those two people were arguably killed by the island. Locke almost died... but maybe he hadn't resolved his life...
OH MY GOD. I have a serious love/hate relationship with this show.

I was going to say the same thing, if Jack's father is dead how did he have a oxycodone prescription? Also, his body was never found...I'm not sure LOST is finished with Dr. Shepard, nothing is ever as it seems and it wouldn't surprise me if there is a story surrounding him. Look at Charlie, he obviously died but somehow is back in the "real world" and the guy who came to see Hurley in the Asylum asked him if "they" were still alive. Just thought I'd throw those points in there.

There's ways to forge a signature and identy. So Jack could very well have done that. When your hooked on meds you go to the extreame to get it. Even if it means to break the law. Even if someone is dead. You can still make it seem as if they are alive. But then again I wouldn't doubt if in someway he was alive.
