I apologize ahead of time if this has already been discussed, but is it possible that the room where we see Mrs. hawkins was a Dharma Station??? there seemed to be some wierd looking buttons and some older looking computers everywhere. Any ideas on this?

i alredy replied to a similar quote like this, but hey, :)
the pendulum that is swinging about, it is creating somthing called an AXIS MUNDI, google this or go to wikipiedia and search it. it is quiet interesting,
also if you remember back to when Jack was beign held in the cage by the others, Juliette done something wrong and had to be punished, when Jack asked her what they had done she lifted her top to reveal an AXIS MUNDI branded on her lower back.

It is likely Dharma related - perhaps some kind of off island station so that they can monitor the island in case something should happen.
Or it could have simply been built by Mrs. Hawking and the Others after the purge so that they could track the island as it's moved, and maybe they just borrowed Dharma equipment. I'm more inclined to think this way as Dharma never experimented with turning the wheel to move the island - so why would they need a tracking station for it?

Dharma had or has stations all around the world.

i assumed they had just pinched some dharma equipment post purge to use as their own. you would think they might have since updated it ;)

Why update when you can play classic games like Oregon Trail on those computers?

I think it may be this "Beacon" I've kept hearing about, though I haven't heard much about it and it may be possible it's some kind of fake.
As for whether or not Dharma would need one, I think perhaps only a select few ran the station. We know that at least Cheng knew about the wheel, and that the island must have been moved once before so the Black Rock could get out into the middle of the jungle, and of course Cheng had that parka. What other reason would he have one in the Orchid?

A deep seeded fear of global cooling?
A bad fever that gave him the chills?

It looked like a church to me. But maybe this is the "Beacon"???
Maybe they have the equipment in another station to work out the co-ordinates easily when the island moves, so Ben et al can easily get on and off the island?
Very interesting point though about Juliette's branding. Had forgotten all about that.

It's also interesting that on Wikipedia, the Colossus of Rhodes is listed as an ancient example of an axis mundi. Stone foot, anyone?

That's not the axis mundi!!!
Read this:
The branding that Juliet received is awfully reminiscent of the Scientology cross upside down! Inverted crosses came about with St. Peter's crucifixion. He did not feel worthy of being crucified under the same cross as his messiah. It has since come to symbolize 'unworthiness' and as a mark of deep respect for your superiors.
