"...you can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave..."

I don't know if this is where the writers are headed, but I had this thought after hearing the Eagle's "Hotel California" on the radio and after consuming some very nice wine.....it explains a lot:

Time on the island is not skipping as Dan put it because Ben turned the wheel to move the island. Turning the wheel hid the island from Widmore which was exactly what Jacob had intended. As far as Dan knows the O6 died on the freighter so he is not aware they escaped - all he knows is that Ben turned the wheel.

Jacob also intended the freighter to blow-up killing all on board. He sent Christian to handle the details. Apparently, any survivors like Jin would move with the island and ultimately be drawn back to the island. But Michael thought to freeze the battery which allowed the helicopter to escape the freighter's explosion, and for some reason the helicopter escaped the island's spacetime when the island moved (it may have something to do with Dan's rocket experiment where the helicopter was in a different spacetime from the island when it moved).

Now time on the island is short circuiting, for lack of a better phrase, because the O6 were not supposed to leave while the island was moving. I am ducking now - The island's future was altered when the O6 escaped. Just like the rest of the 815 survivors, the O6 are beholden to the island. Michael couldn't die until the island allowed it. Ditto Jack. There are still the mystical attributes of the island to deal with.

Time on the island will not return to 'normal' until the O6 plus Ji Yeon return. Mrs. Hawking, Richard, Locke and Ben are working to insure that happens or you-know-what.

If Jacob gets his way, the survivors on 815 are never allowed to leave alive.

Walt seems to be the exception, but if the above is correct and Jacob is still in control, Walt will be making his way back too. However, Walt and Des are special in some way, and they may become the flies in Jacob's ointment.

Time to open another bottle....cheers :D

I like reading ideas like this. Not over loaded with "if this happened, then this would happen, causing that to happen" verbage.

Very believable and well thought out.

i m sure if jin was in the space time of the island anyone else on the ship could be back too. i wonder how the island is going to warn sun that hes alive before she kills ben.im sure ben knows some how or will expect his survival atleast or lie and end up being right.

im dont believe the islands skipping is altering anything.it is causing things that already should happen and explain visions like how john knew where the plane was.

time for another bottle cheers!;)

I heard Desperado was the inspiration for Locke's character.

LOL...with this show it's all about interpreting the tidbits the writers give us and not minding being wrong :)
