Henry Gale and Widmore Labs

I have started to watch Lost all over again. I am right now finishing of season two with just a few more episodes before it is done. It is interesting to see all the new details with the knowledge of Lost gathered over the seasons and years.

Now to my thoughts. When Ben is captured and taken to the Hatch he say his name is Henry Gale from Minnesota on a trip around the world in a balloon. He paints a map to Ana-Lucia and she brings Sayid and Charlie out on a search. They find the balloon and dig up a grave finding Henry Gale who has very little resemblance to Ben. The balloon it self had a smile-face on it and the "basket" underneath it seemed to be one of those hi altitude advanced balloon traveling baskets or tank might be a better term for it. The tank has some logos on it (S02E17 - The Lockdown). The big logo says "Widmore Labs". Widmore Labs was also the company manufacturing the pregnancy test used by Sun.

So is it safe to say that Henry Gale was working for Widmore? I think so. And who was he? What was his mission? Was he alone? How does this play into the story? And will this storyline be picked up again in one of those timetravelling flashes? Will it be one of those things that just passed by in the passed but gain real importance in the future?

If the balloon was a product of Widmore Labs, then it doesn't necessairly mean Henry Gale was working for Widmore. You mentioned Sun using a pregnancy test from Widmore Labs. Was she working for Widmore?

It is possible that the real Henry Gale was working for Widmore unknowingly. Widmore could have designed these balloons with the hope that one would lead him to the Island. A very far-fetched scenario, but with all his money and resources, Widmore could have had the balloons tracked on the off chance that one led him to the Island.

Anyway, I appreciate this thread because it just made me consider something I hadn't before! You know how Widmore Industries sponsored the boat race Des was on? Maybe they sponsored an around the world balloon race too?!

i would say she's working with him at the moment, not really working for him. She has her own agenda, and working side by side with Widmore to achieve her goal is probably temporary. She has her own resources and money thru Paik industries.

Henry Gale worked for a mining or mineral company. My best guess is yes, he was sent by Charles Widmore to search for the island. The company he worked for was, I believe a subsidiary of Widmore Industries.

Here it is from Lostpedia:

Henry Gale crashed onto the Island in a hot air balloon that was "proudly sponsored by" various groups including the Minnesota Metallurgy & Mining Company. Its logo can be found as a decal on the side of the gondola, above the tanks.

Widmore Industries was also written on the balloon as a sponsor.

Did Charles send Henry or have any influence over the trip beyond sponsorship? you have to think so right?

How well did Ben know him? He knew enough to use his name and home address, but he could have gotten that from the licence. Then again why use the name?

How did he die and who buried him? He didn't put himself in that grave.

Was Henry Gale a previous failed(?) attempt by Widmore to get back to the island? Or at least to get Ben off of it? Is that the only way you can get back to the island if a previous leader, you have to get the current leader off of it?

unfortunately it seems that Gales story is over. Maybe TPTB will give us a flashback on how he came to be on the Island and his purpose and how he died. Curious to know who gave him a "proper" burial. maybe his wife is an Other now and she buried him before she got captured and recruited by them. As Ben says all through out since his first appearance, the Others have associates on and off the Island. Take in concideration that Emerson was only a "Temp".
I would like to think that once an other, always an other. The beef between you and another Other is between you two. The rest just hang in the temple and let it resolve.
