I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm starting to pity Jack, a character I used to loathe. He has the world on his shoulders now more than ever. I am finding myself starting to root for him. Anyone else?

If the poor punk stopped all the self-loathing himself...

At least now he is understanding what is going on....

He pisses me off so much it's hard to root for him. He's so stubborn and contrary. He still wants to argue with Locke and the guy is dead!
He thinks Hawking is being ridiculous? How much crap does he have to see and go through before he admits that there is something going that he doesn't have the answer to? Is it possible that someone else could know something he doesn't? 99% percent of his problems he brings on himself because he just has to be smarter and more rational than everyone else. He's gonna fix it his way and he doesn't want to be bothered with considering anyone else point of view. Two perfect examples, he will NOT read Locke's note and he's going to set Hawking and Ben straight. Even though he has no freakin clue what's going on.

As for me, let's just say I've stopped hating him. I'm not pitying him.....yet. His facial expressions, mannerisms, etc., go along with his newly found focus to do what is right regarding the return to the island.

Yes he is a dick, but as Mahalo Dude said, I just don't hate him anymore, and I feel sorry for him because he is so lost, he is his own worst enemy. But he is coming around. Yes he is still angry with Locke, but at least now his mind is finely open enough to listen to Locke's advise. Now it's up to him to convince the other Losties this is all for a "reason", they weren't meant to leave, this was "destiny" just as Locke said. And again just like Locke, now that he's back on the island he is going to be trying to find out "why". I don't think anyone who returned is going back for the same reasons as Jack, they all seem to be on that plane returning for some reason of there own. Sun to find Jin, Hurley, Kate, Ben, and Sayid for reasons we don't know yet, but I don't think it's because Jack asked them too. As a matter of fact, I think everyone one of them is mad at Jack for one reason or another. I can't wait to see when their reasons are revealed. Keep hating Jack that's fine, he's not the most likable of all the losties for sure, but I think his plight is gonna start to get very interesting. Wait and see.

I do kind of feel bad for him. I have really mixed feelings about him as a character. Sometimes, he seems honorable enough and other times he's so close-minded it's difficult to feel bad for him at all. Like last night when he just would not read Locke's letter. It's just obnoxious for anybody to act that way.

I've always liked Jack. I question the way he does things, but from the very beginning everyone turned to him for guidance. I guess he feels like hes the one that has to lead them and take care of them from here on out.

I think that Jack almost always has honorable intentions but he gets in his own way a lot of the time... or should I say his "ego" gets in the way. In my experience, I think that happens a lot with highly educated people, especially surgeons. They are used to being leaders, in control and are quintessential "fixers". I also think that, more often than not (and this is only based on my personal experience), highly educated people tend to struggle more with taking a leap of faith. Decisions tend to be based on logical, analytical, imperical evidence rather than feeling, intuition and faith. Some make decisions based on cognitive thought and others make decisions based on emotion. Maybe I have more empathy and understanding for Jack's character because he reminds me of my Father in so many respects and my Daddy is my hero. All I'm saying is that Jack is stubborn in his beliefs and needs to be shown the way rather than just taking someones word for it or following his heart. His heart is in the right place and wants to do what is best for those in his trust but unfortunately has to take the hard road due to his ego. That's my synopsis of Jack.

I've always liked Jack! Even though the whole Drinking thing was kinda a cop out, I like him he has always done what he could to help others.. On the island he was the losties leader, because they trusted him.. He looked out for everyone, he is not a bad guy!
The coming home thing have him major guilt and I think thats what messed with his head...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention another thing he's doing that Locke does/did, "listening to, and trusting" Ben".

I feel a hell of a lot more sorry for Locke. Jack's gonna have a more stressful time ahead of him now that he's the leader again. But I don't feel sorry for him yet!

I've always liked Jack. He's always tried so hard, maybe too much. But it bothers me when he thinks he knows whats best all the time. He needs to chill out for a bit, let Sawyer take some of that load off his shoulders. I've always wanted Jack to be happy..lose the drugs and alcohol, go back to doctoring and find a good woman (Juliette) I think in the end, he's going to come out the real hero.

I'm so evil - I have no pity for him whatsoever! In fact I feel the opposite - I'm delighted that he has to listen to what Sawyer has to say, and then gets a janitors job! He hasn't got much respect for Sawyer even though Sawyer has had to rack his brains to ensure their safety and the only thing he can do is make a snide remark! He's gonna lose the head sometime soon I reckon with Sawyer in charge and going out with his old girlfriend and eyeing Kate. HAHA!

I don't pity Jack. He deserves everything he gets. He deserves to clean toilets for Dharma. Sawyer was 100% correct in verbally bitchslappin' jack. He rarely made good choices as a leader.

Many peopole posted comments on another thread about Jack's conversation with Lafleur(Sawyer) as pointless. I on the other hand think it brought upa very very important point. Jack "reacted" to situations and Lafleur "thinks". I think that was a very important scene to the story of Lost. Jack's response to Lafleur about him getting them all off the Island was the response of a desperate man. Once again reacting to what Lafleur said and not thinking about it. He did not think about what resulted from their leaving the Island and what it did to those remaining on it. I honestly dont feel sorry for him one bit. He is getting what he deserves.

And Jack claiming to be hero for getting them off the Island must ring a pretty sour note to Sawyer who had to jump from a moving helicopter about 60 feet above the water for Jacks "plan" to work out. Jack could have had the decency to treat Sawyer with a little respect for that if nothing else. Didn't Jacks Momma teach him to say thank you when somebody saves your ass?

I agree. Jack once again is trying to "fix" things and save Sayid when in actuality Lafleur is keeping Sayid alive, fed and safe. Jack thinks he is going to come back to the Island and be the "man" when really he is anything but. I like how Lafleur brings up that he is saving his life just as he saved Jack's when he personally deleivered them to the DI welcome picnic. Grow up Jack or lafleur will eat you for lunch. Other than losing the card games on the Island to Jack, Lafleur conned everyone including jack when he got the guns. Lafleur didnt take to kindly to jack questioning him in his own house. Especially after saving his life and not wonder the jungle for 6 months until the next sub with new recruits came.

Yeah Jack isn't very good at being gracious! Now he's gonna be jealous when he sees Kate's eyes wandering over at Sawyer, and he's not in charge anymore. It will do him good! It reminds me of Roger's reaction to being a workman!

I'm hoping we see some growth from him like we have from Sawyer. Sawyer always had leadership potential, but was trying desperately to keep everyone at arm's length. Now that he actually cares about the people around him, he's turned out to be a pretty good leader. Jack, on the other hand was always motivated by the need to prove to himself that his daddy was wrong about him being weak. I've always thought that his inability to follow, to change his mind, or to take advice was a mark of insecurity. His goals become more important than the people he's supposedly trying to achieve them for.
Hopefully being a janitor and being in a position that requires him to listen to others will teach him something and we'll get a better person and a better leader in the end. He'll probably still be a dick, though.

Yes indeed I have always hated Jack, ( check my old post ) but I thought he had reached a turning point on that episode, I felt sorry for him because I likened him to Locke (man of faith) trying to get everyone back to the island, but he only showed a few moments being an actual human, turns out he's still a prick.
