There have been a lot of good theories about what is going on. While watching last night, it struck me. Have your read the Philadelphia Experiment. The theory is that of using strong magnetic fields to time shift people and materials. What we know is that there is a lot of people doing things at times that seem out of phase. We also know that when the rocket was launched from the boat, it took 15 mins longer to get to the island.
I think that the large Darma magnetrometer (that blew up) was used to time shift people back and forth in time. That explains how lock's father got to the island, it explains how Ben can find som much information out about people (go back in time and get it). It also explains why the people that got to the island wanted Ben, he has been the time traveler that was recognized. It also explains how he knows that the rescuers are not rescuers.
I think there is another group that is using this capability to mold further events to what they want them to be, and Ben is a rogue player at one of the sites (there is probably others) and so they feel he needs to be stopped.
Penelope plays into this because her father is one of the group that is managing the future and that is why it is not "Pennies Boat"
Apparently, Ben & Siad were able to excape and are now in hunt mode knocking off the people that are playing with the timeline....
At least that is one more theory.:D
