Well I am thinking that maybe this time they were trying to get back to the Island and the first time they crashed on the island due to the elctromagnetic pull the Swan had on them making the Island visible for a brief moment

here is a crazy theory I have mentioned this before. Maybe not all of them were meant to go back to the island. They were just needed on Ajira 316 as proxys to get the person/people with purpose back.
