View Full Version : Poke holes in this theory for me.....

Hello all. I finally worked up the stones to post the start to my theory here. It started to gather some steam last night when I watched an episode from season 2 "Lockdown" There were many interesting things in the episode:
1. Locke does a home inspection for Sayid's girl.
2. Locke's dad's safety deposit box in the bank vault is # 1516
3. As Locke knocks on his dad's hotel room by the airport you can see the tailwing of an Oceanic plane go by.
4. We see the beginning to Locke's curious loyalty to Ben begin. The episode was centered around the important people in Locke's life leaving him. His Dad left him....again, and Locke proposed to his girlfriend, who said no and left. As Locke was trapped on the floor of the hatch, Ben stays with him, and helps him when he could have escaped out of the front door of the hatch. They focus majorly on Locke thanking Ben for "not leaving me." Ben is the first person in Locke's life that didn't abandon him. Now, Ben's motive can be questioned I know that, but he made an impression on Locke in that instant..... that Locke carries with him even until now.
BUT.......the most interesting thing that happened in the episode that has my mind spinning is..........the Dharma food drop...with a working flashing light attached that Jack, Kate, Sayid and Charlie find in the jungle as they return from looking for "Henry Gale"s parachute. The food drop had obviously happened very recently. Now, if I remember right, the "purge" happened in the early to mid 80's, roughly 20 years before flight 815 crashed. So......all this bable leads to my theory that......
When Desmond failed to enter the numbers on time, thus causing flight 815 to crash, the island jumped in time, and the plane crashed on the island in the past. Perhaps soon after the purge happened, hence the fresh food drop. If it were soon after the purge, the Dharma people on the main land, or wherever the food was being loaded would not have known all their people had been wiped out.
Now we did see a huge open grave with skeletons from the purge, but that was after the second flash...see below.
Next we "flash" to the day the hatch imploded. The sky lit up, and the island had to move in time again. It moved, caused the electromagnetic disturbance and was back into "almost" present time. It became visible and was able to be found because it was in the "almost" present. I say "almost" because as we saw when Faraday did the homing signal test with the freighter, the island is roughly 30 seconds behind what is the present.
Does this have any legs, or am I making any sense?
Thanks for letting me babble, i'm curious to see what you think.

Nice theory.
The only thing i question is, if they jump back 20 years or so when des didnt turn the key, then where is the guy who is watching the hatch 20 years ago? If you jump back in time and they drop the food for the guys in the hatch or whatever, then we would see those guys from the hatch.

Ok, there's one hole poked. I'll have to think about that one. Thanks for the tidbit.

yeaah it has legs almost 3 (hehehe) but more to poking holes if they were 30 seconds behind did the season 5 flashes change that or is there like still a 30 second delay or watever?and are u saying that momentarily the flight 815 ppl were in the past to a point after the purge but b/c they were there the dharma never stopped droppin food cuz they saw ppl still there and well there was also the others there after the purge (and currently) so there are my questions to this theory

First of all, the season 5 flashes have the island all over the place in time. The 30 second thing goes out the window. The 30 second thing ended when the island dissapeared, because that was the next time flash.
As far as Dharma continuing the food drops even into 2004, if that was revealed, I totally missed it and blows this whole theory to bits, lol. I guess I assumed the food drops ended when Dharma did on the island, after the purge. And that is why I believe they crashed on the island in the 1980's.

Maybe the punching of the numbers was letting the people back on the mainland know that everything was still ok on the island??? Maybe thats why there were still food drops? After the hatch blew up, I dont recall anymore drops, probably because there was no communication, and therefore they know that the island has moved or something? I dont know who "they" are off of the island, but I think that the number punching was communicated to "them." Just my 2 cents.

Wait a minute.....
Lets go with your theory for a second (Because this is a pretty good one in my opinion) The food Drops continued for as long as the BUTTON was pushed.....but then after the Hatch blew up- the food drops stopped!
So.....that actually WOULD make sence!

that would be very interesting. my family thinks the writers make this up as they go, but i want proof to prove them wrong. this could be my chance. :)

I just thought of one thing though. if they were 30 seconds in the past, wouldn't they see what the were doing thirty seconds in the future? i think it would be very weird to be following yourself around all day.

That is an awesome theory, one thing I noticed, though, is that they were behind when Faraday did his experiment, but then the doctor from the freightor washed up on the Island's shore before Keamy murdered him...
To support it, Eloise Hawking herself said that the Island is constantly moving through time, so it could have moved somehow a day or two into the future sometime after Faraday's experiment.

They couldn't have jumped back to the 80's, because if they did, the plane wouldn't have gone with them, just like when ajira 516 crashed, and Jack, Hurley, Kate and Sayid were jumped back to the 70's, the plane stayed in the present with Locke and the new survivors.
The fact that there was a dharma drop is peculiar though. It landed pretty close to the hatch if I remember correctly, so it probably is because the numbers were still being entered, Widmore and the other higher powers of the DI knew they still had a man down there and they had to send supplies. Widmore knew that Desmond, or whoever was still in the hatch, was oblivious to the purge, and figured no reason to tell him, just let him keep saving the world every 108 minutes.

"When Desmond failed to enter the numbers on time, thus causing flight 815 to crash, the island jumped in time, and the plane crashed on the island in the past."
nope. Oceanic 815 crashed in 2005. AKAIK, the FDW is the only thing that can trigger the time jumps.

I have a burning question - 2 actually -
1) Why did the food drops stop?
2) Eloise Hawking says they spend alot of time and effort trying to find the Island - how are they making food drops?

The food drops were probably being made by the people who knew where the "windows" were. The windows that allow access to the island. Anyone on the mainland who occupied a lampost station would have access to that info.

This is a very good question actually. It doesn't seem like some easy task. Like....get the intern to do it LOL. She was pretty serious about the short window of time. Is there any evidence of them actually stopping? I feel like one of the losties made mention of it more recently but I can't quote anything.
