Mrs. Hawkings didn't look to pissed when Ben only brought a hand full of O6...why? I thought it was so important. So important in fact that Jack put old shoes on Locke. Then it clicked. Maybe she didn't care because she knew Hurley was getting on that plane. He was also bring old buddies with him. That is why he bought all of the airlane tickets. It wasn't to save innocent people but it was so all of his "ghost" losties would have a seat. We know he's talked with Ana, Libby, Eko, and Charlie maybe he brought them all with him.-
As for the people in the back of the plane. They were all some how connected to the orginal losties just like the original losties were connected to each other.
Now I don't remember the exact number of seats Hurley bought and I don't remember the total number of passengers on O815 but if someone could look that up I think it would be very interesting to see that he bought tickets for everyone that ever died from 815

I believe he bought 78 stand by seats plus his own. But I don't know how many have died.

There were 324 passengers total on Flight 815. 48 from the main fuselage survived the crash and 22 from the tail section survived. Of course, subsequent deaths were involved and those numbers have since dwindled.

I did wonder how he could afford those seats, didn't he give all of his money away as he thought it was bad luck.

Then they all got settlements from Oceanic, so "guess who" gets rich again.

most likely....i'm betting hurleys extra friends don't need a plane ticket to get to the island ;)

I'm positive this is all it was but people are always looking for deeper meanings on this show.

Wasn't it 42 and 23?

There may not be a correspondence between the number of dead Losties and the number of empty eats on the plane, but that doesn't mean there aren't dead people on the plane with Hurley. It is the simplest explanation of why Hurley is on the plane at all. Hurley would have difficulty saying no to a bevy of his dead friends especially if they insisted on going with him. They - the dead people -probably do not need a plane to get to the Island or seats to sit on, but most of the time when we see Hurley with a dead person, that dead person is sitting on real furniture. Hurley would buy them seats because he is Hurley and that would be the polite thing to do. He would buy all the seats because, once again, he is Hurley and he can afford it. Even if he gave away all his money including the 'Oceanic 6' settlement his parents have $158 Million that he gave them. "Uh, mom. I need 100 Grand to take a trip to Guam."

Hurley's seats are probably just a simple way of not having to introduce a zillion new people on the island from the crash. Of course you could just say they all died.

OMG- Wait a minute....78 seats! Hurley bought 78 Seats!
Flight 815 had 48 "Main" Passangers
and 22 "Tailies"
____
70 Passangers.....
And then you had
1. Jack
2. Ben
3. Sun
4. Kate
5. Syiad
6. Hurley
7. Pilot
8. Locke
Which equals 78!!
Now I know this is weird- I mean- the "8" have now bought TWO seats (Flight 815 abd 316) Except for Locke- who is dead....but as we have seen before, numbers MEAN something on the Island...and to Hurley! So I'm guessing you are right- and it matters!
