I think Ben is the remote control smoke monster or Jacob is. But why Locke was able to escape it and why Ecko had a stare down with it and was later apparently killed by it is a mystery I can't figure out! If it isn't controlled by Ben but is it's own entity, that's another puzzle. It reminds me of the wizard of oz, somehow.

I agree totally, it reminds me of how Locke said "the man behind the curtain" and how we think this smoke monster is this huge, dangerous creature while all along it could be Ben making it happen? Maybe he knew Locke was special and feels like he needs him where as maybe Ecko not so much? Still wouldn't explain all the weird things it has done, I just REALLY hope they don't get too sci fi on us. I'd really like a more scientific explanation.

I think Ben has said he didn't know what the "monster" was, but it could be just a cover... It actually would be a good idea to have Miles confront the black smoke since he is some kind of medium...

I think the last smoke monster moment was when Kate and Juliette were hand-cuffed together. Prior to that Smokie took out Ecko. Correct me if I am wrong, but Smokie seems to operate in non-beach areas of the island. there are theories that the smoke monster is actually the ash surrounding Jacob's cabin and is controled by Jacob or someone or something else.

I still think smoky happened during the "incident" and was the product of an experiment gone wrong. I was just watching 'Solitary' from Season 1 and its when Sayid was captured by Rousseau.....he tells her to be careful of the monster and she snaps back, "There's no such thing as monsters"....it makes me wonder if she possibly knows what it is since she's been on the island for over 16 years?

Did anyone notice that when Claire went to the hospital to tell her mother she was pregnant, that Jack was inthe background in hospital garp washing the floor. Did he pull the plug on Claire's mother? And was Claire's mother the body that was supposed to be in the coffin going to America? No funeral a hearse at the airport right to the cemetary???

I think Jack and his father conspired to turn off the life support on Claire's mother and then stage Jack's father's death. When JAck searched for water on the island following his father's image he found the coffin thrown frmthe plane and it was empty. Now in the last week's flash forward Jack tells teh prescription clerk to call his father's office, he also confromts his supervisor and says, "get my father down here and let's see who is more drunk'. Did jack return to LA and find his father reinstated in the hospital? And is this the reason he is depressed and drunk? Jack can't say he was complicit in the turning off of the life sustaining machines keeping Cl;aire's mother alive so he's in a CAtch 22. The con theme runs throughthe entire series, was Jack in on a con withhis Dad to get Claire's moother on life support thinking his father woudl stayinSidney, but wehn he got off the island he found he was the victim of the con. I still go back to why wa JAck so desparate to get his father's coffin to LA into a hearse and off to burial unless he had something seriosu to hide.

I don't think he was trying to hide anything, just wanted to put his fathers death behind him because he hated his dad and all the pressure and ridiculing.
