I was board today and did some research on the name Minkowski and came across a German mathematician by the name of Hermann Minkowski. He is known for creating and developed the geometry of numbers and who used geometrical methods to solve difficult problems in number theory, mathematical physics, and the theory of relativity.

I took special intress in his works with Einstein's special theory of relativity. He belived it could be best understood in a four dimensional space, since known as "Minkowski spacetime", in which the time and space are not separated entities but intermingled in a four dimensional space-time

This seems to have alot to deal with LOST as in the posbility of what is going on the island. I belive Daniel Faraday's experiment withthe payday rocket further sugest that he has expected the time deley on the island for quite some time since he has been on the island.

Here's the link to the research on Minkowski.

if you would like to read up on it. If you can understand it. It's very well worth your time.

i think they definitely like to use surnames as a nod to people who may have something to do with the overall story of lost and what is happening. i mean, its happened one too many times for it to be a coincidence.

i shall read it later as i seem to be having a serious case of brainmush for the last few days.

Yeah he did seem to expect the time delay...at first I thought his reaction was one of surprise but then when I watched it again he just seemed to be excited like his theory was confirmed.

i agree - he wasnt taken aback at all really was he when it arrived. and after it never showed up, he never made a big fuss of it then either.

as an aside, was it daniel, when speaking to Regina, say " you don't need to discuss this with Minkowski.?

i cant remember - will need to listen again.

he doesnt say that but frank tells him to hang up in minkowski comes on the phone.

Thanks B, I knew he was mentioned in that kind of context.

Yah that makes me wonder if they are using Daniel for some reason?

i think the fact that frank never gave dan the phone without questioning him first would show they are all a tad suspicious of each other!

Yah good point, like Miles and Frank mentioned, they all had just met each other and its not like they all sat around and had lunch together LOL, so yah they probably don't trust each other at all. Kind of like how Miles didn't seem to care that Naomi had been killed or Charlotte was taken.

Thought I'd bump this up since you wrote about Minkowski Space-Time so long ago....

Last night, in Daniel's journal, we saw this:

Now, many of us have discussed Minkowski Space Time for a while, and we've all seen the light cone looking diagrams in the journal. But I had not previously seen THIS:

I just thought you might find it interesting!! :)

Intuitively and the most easy way to think of time travel is to move beyond the speed of light. This diagram alluded to tachyons which i think is what could create the mirror scenario:

Since a tachyon moves faster than the speed of light, we cannot see it approaching. After a tachyon has passed nearby, we would be able to see two images of it, appearing and departing in opposite directions. The black line is the shock wave of Cherenkov radiation, shown only in one moment of time. This double image effect is most prominent for an observer located directly in the path of an FTL object (in this example a sphere, shown in grey). The right hand bluish shape is the image formed by the blue-doppler shifted light arriving at the observer—who is located at the apex of the black Cherenkov lines—from the FTL sphere as it approaches. The left-hand reddish image is formed from redshifted light that leaves the sphere after it passes the observer. Since the object arrives before the light the observer sees nothing until the sphere starts to pass the observer, after which the image-as-seen-by-the-observer splits into two—one of the arriving sphere (to the right) and one of the departing sphere (to the left).

These images are like mirrors of each other. The world of the tachyon is a weird place. Unlike normal particles, a tachyon gains speed when it loses energy, so a tachyon with zero energy would have infinite speed. In fact, it would require infinite energy to slow a tachyon to the speed of light, making it impossible for it to travel below the speed of light. It is as if tachyons live in a mirror world reflected by this invisible barrier.

the problem confronting alternative universes in my humbe opinion is the theory of singularity. ie the big bang theory. tachyons seem to take this idea head on and could theoretically solve that problem

Tachyon Universe Discovered
The theory of multiple parallel Universes has gained growing acceptance amongst the top echelons of the Astronomy establishment in recent years, while at the same time positive evidence of such Universes has eluded researchers. Now for the first time there has been a breakthrough.
The 5km diameter Particle Accelerator at the Fort Davis Research Field Station of the University of Texas has been modified by the addition of four flux interferometers and a high-speed blink-comparator at the epicentre of the 200,000L hyperboloid tank of Carbon Tetrachloride situated in the Accelerator's focal plane.

This modification was intended to measure the reactions of tachyons during neutrino surges in the continuing study of sub-atomic particles, but the accidental discovery was made during periods of solar maxima that the instrument had in fact become a gigantic wide-field telescope capable of electronically imaging, in a way not yet fully understood, a Universe composed entirely of combinations of tachyons.

Project Director Professor Audi Biemer announced preliminary findings yesterday at the University tricentenary dinner where he was keynote speaker.

Professor Biemer said that superficially the limited view so far obtained of the Tachyon Universe resembled our own with a significant exception.

It had been known that tachyons hitherto examined in our Universe had the ability to travel briefly back in time, but it seems that the Tachyon Universe is not expanding as is ours, but is actually contracting, while star forming as we know it is replaced by stars degrading into rotating masses of tachyon gases.

Also, some gas clouds are contracting into supernovae and shortly afterwards into massive stars.

In a mirror image fashion, the Tachyon Universe is contracting towards its very own big bang.

What the black holes are up to all this time nobody has yet figured out - maybe a blip between supernova and big star.

The Tachyon Universe seems to occupy the same time and space as ours but does not interact with it except in the limited fashion so far demonstrated by the modified Particle Accelerator.
